This cracks me up (Airlines charging larger passengers to fly)

Here's the article... what I find funny is the image.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/06/26/obese.passengers.airlines/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

First, I'd be totally embarassed to see my picture pop up on the topic of "larger passengers" (much like I'd be embarassed to see myself on one of those stock footage reels talking about obesity in America where there are a bunch of obese people walking down the street).

Second, I find it ironic (and amusing) that the people in this picture appear to be gathered around a snack counter.

Earlier this year, United Airlines formalized a policy that charges some larger passengers for a second seat.

I just read this. (1) On my flight to Fort Lauderdale, they ran out of those seatbelt extenders (2) There was a guy sitting across from us who was almost too big to fit into a first class seat. I felt so sorry for him.

Hmm I think we talked about this awhile ago - I think it was a hot topic. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I would say that most of the people in that picture are not "larger" and that even larger people have to eat, especially given the fact that airlines don't feed you anymore.

The woman in the tan shirt is definitely larger, and the point is that they chose a picture of people waiting in line for food for an article about overweight fliers, which I kind of doubt was intentional.

We received passes to be the first people to ride on Terminator the ride at Magic Mountain, it sucked to have watch people get up and off the ride. It is one of those bar pull downs around the belly type thing and for some people it just didn't fit. The embarrasement of having to sit in the ride, pull the bar down and then it not fit. The park officers would just say sorry, but you can't ride the ride if it did not close. This was a limited access night and there was max, 200 people there,  we watched about 5 or 6 people have to get up.

I know this is not exactly the same as the airline, but imagine paying to get in and not being able to ride the ride!

I have been through many exciting things in my life, but none as exciting as what I'm going through now. I'm a wife, a soon to be mom and a dog lover!

"The airlines need to be making bigger seats," said Peggy Howell, a spokeswoman for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, a group based in San Francisco, California. "It's not safe to be cramming us into two seats."

can someone please point out to her that this is not evolution?  it's not like moving doorknobs up 3" over 100 years.

as for the picture, i'd say the only one NOT on the heavy side is that guy in the front of the line.

Next time, just buy the damn cookies.

The women in the picture look like they could all be related.

I'm all about acceptance and tolerance for all human beings, but the fact that she is citing safety is a bit much. Obesity is not safe... diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, etc.
