Master's Thesis: how long did it take u to finish

Hi - I was wondering how long it took you to complete your thesis or capstone project once you found your topic and it was approved?

For my MSR (survey research) it ended up taking me 2.5 weeks b/c of massive chaos from my "group project partner" trying to get away with not doing anything. The "compromise" was me giving him the year of work I'd done for the project and starting on my own. (Still got an A - kharma's a b*tch and I am looking forward to it smacking that guy.)

For my MPA - the topic was approved in December and I busted on it and presented/defended in May to be able to submit it to a Foundation that was providing the data and knew of the research (it was on SCHIP).  I was one of four students who finished in the year-long timeline the department establishes though. Most of the writing (lit review, etc) was done before the topic was approved and so I had analysis and presentation of findings left. Two students actually still haven't finished and graduation was in May 07. The other two finished within the next year and defended the following summer.

I did mine last summer during the summer semester.  I want to say from mid-May - mid-July.

I did my Lit Review in one spring semester (it was actually considered a class and if you were smart, you tried to plan your Lit Review as something you could use in your Masters Final Project).  I finished the project that summer.  Now, I'm a teacher so it was nice to have that amount of time to work on it.... however, I really only spent about a day each week on it for several hours at a time.  I had planned to spend a little time each day, but for me, it was just easier to spend big chunks of time on it each week.

This was for a Masters Final Project that didn't really have to be defended - I just had to present it to my profs and peers and answer questions but it wasn't as stressful as an actual defense.

DH took a semester to do his Masters Thesis (engineering) but then got feedback too late in the game and ended up having to wait another sememster until he actually defended it due to the timeline.

I think the study set-up was approved in October and I handed in my report and presented it in May.

2 months give or take a few days.  Mine wasn't group though.  I could see that taking longer.

I started my data gathering in August and defended the thesis in December.  I had a lot of motivation as I was promised a raise at work once I had the degree (which I got, but then had taken away but that's another story!)

I think I worked on my Lit Review a little prior to August but it wasn't something separate I had to hand in, it was for my own use and part of the final project.

Mine will take me about 9 months, but I'm doing actual field research in Guatemala.

My first took about 10 months from identification to completion--but it involved survey development, an IRB approval and travel to Tanzania to do the actual data collection.

The one I'm working on now for my MPH should take no more than 3 months once I actually do something besides idly glance at my proposal
