Salon Owner Tips

I had my haircut last night with the owner of a salon.  I've always heard that you shouldn't tip the owner.  I did.  And he took it.

It just grated on my brain a bit after.  He gave me a really good haircut.  But he was rather pompous and argumentative during some conversation.  I think that is what had my 2nd guessing.

Also, I did tip the guy who 'shampoo'ed' my hair.

Any thoughts?

I get my haircut by the owner of the salon I go to and I always tip.  I would feel terrible not tipping.  And I always tip the person who shampoos my hair.

Are you surprised he took it?  I've heard you don't have to tip an owner, but I certainly wouldn't expect them to turn one down.

I went to a very small salon for years. It was basically just the 2 owners that cut hair.  I always tipped.  But I loved her and she always cut my hair well and was really nice.  I was pleased with the service so I tipped.  Plus, since they were a small place, the cost of the cut was on the low end to begin with so I didn't mind adding in a tip.

Personally, I'd tip an owner if I felt like they deserved it.  If you didn't like his attitude and weren't happy with the cut, I wouldn't have tipped much.  I probably would have still tipped if I liked the cut but was annoyed with attitude...but I wouldn't go back to him.

As for the shampoo person, I never understand that one.  I've only had a seperate person when I've gotten highlights.  I just give one tip at the front desk when I pay.

If you didn't like him, don't go back.

If you offered the tip, I guess it's only natural that he took it.  I mean, the economy isn't great after all.

But I often see the owners of different services and NEVER tip them.

If they wanted to make more they'd raise their rates.  Tips are only for those who aren't owners.

In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation.
