Who knew this was so hard?

It's been 3 years and we still can't pick the pictures for our wedding album.  We are only supposed to have about 50 pictures but can't get it down to even 90 yet!!!

We already went through and tried to stick to family pictures and traditional pictures.  Even though there are lots of great pictures of friends there are already friends that we aren't as close to anymore.  As for the funny shots and more modern/stylistic shots we may just put all the fun stuff into a cheap photobook in the future sometime with other digital prints we got from friends.

If anyone has actually finished their album yet... how were you able to finish it?

Dude how weird is this - after you posted about this earlier, I got an email from my photographer asking us about ours! Hehe oops!

I was told to pick around 20. I sent them a list of 65 and said this is the best we could do. Good luck!

It's a blog. It's sort of a chart.

I have no advice, sorry! Our photographer isn't making our album, so my mom & I spend 4 hours flipping through the proof book one afternoon and picked about 100 pictures each to have printed...no idea how I could have gotten that down to 50 total. My scrapbook/ album will only be interesting to me because people will get bored about 3 pages into it and still about about 85 pages to go hahahaha!

You want your album to tell a story. So you want to pick pictures that will do that. Here is how ours goes:

1 - Me getting ready.

2 - DH getting ready.

4 - Ceremony: walking up the aisle, exchanging vows, readings, our special ring ceremony, exchanging rings, first kiss, down the aisle.

5 - Formals: with BP, our family, and just us.

6 - Reception: introductions, first dance, toasts, cake cutting, F/D M/S dances, bouquet toss, garter toss.

7 - Random candids during reception and detail pictures (some are good as background pictures).

In addition to the traditional album (above), 200 proofs came with our package from the photographer. I ordered an additional 150 or so prints from mpix.com (highly recommend them) and put all those pictures into an album in order of when they were taken.

Ditto MrsC regarding wanting to tell a story.  I've realized in the last few years that DH and I are abnormal in that we were super eager to get our album done and picked out pictures just a few weeks after the wedding.  I think our album has 70 or 75 pics and it was hard to even narrow down to that.  Our photographer actually sat with us and projected the images on a screen and helped us decide on the right ones.

I guess it depends on the kinds of photos you like, but personally I think an album full of posed, formal shots would be really boring (sorry, that's my honest opinion).

I've definitely broken the pictures out into story mode already.  I have a whole list written out: getting ready, processional, vows, rings, leaving, 1st dance, parent dances, etc etc.  That helped a lot but it's still hard to narrow down the pictures within each of those groups.

I also didn't mean that I was going for all formal shots.  Most of our pictures are candids. We just narrowed down to "somewhat" more traditional pictures. We still have pics of us driving golf carts, doing the hokie pokie, and climbing up rocks for pictures.  The pictures of people wearing balloon hats, showing off their metal legs, and individual couples (or single people) dancing got cut though.

Can you smush multiple pics into one spot? I've got pics overlayering each other in mine and it gave me a lot more pics.

The most pictures we can have per page is 4 because it has inlayed photos.
