BR: Boo - modified bedrest

I just got back from my third dr. appt. this week and I have been placed on modified bedrest until at least Mon (my next appt) but most likely the rest of the pregnancy.  I can still go to my shower next Sat, but she's not sure she will let me go to our childbirth classes. <-- Does it make me a bad mother that I'm pretty OK with that?  They were 3 hrs every Sunday for the next four weeks and I was not looking forward to them.

I know this is for my health and the health of the baby, but this is crappy timing. I hope I get "released" on Mon.

Oh darn- don't you hate that? I don't know about you but I was shocked to be put on bedrest. Why are you on it?

Can I be on bedrest sans a baby? I'd really just like to take a nap and watch tv...

At least you'll get to go to the shower!

GL and please listen to your doctor!  He/she knows best!  I was "supposed" to be on bedrest with my first pg and I thought it was a bunch of bull until I was actually placed in the hospital on bedrest.  DS1 came 7 wks early.  While nothing could have changed what happened (I was very ill - severe pre-e/HELLP syndrome), I still blame myself to this day.

You'll just have to hang out at MM to be entertained.

It's still sucks though, no matter how much you tell yourself it's for both your healths, it still sucks.

I have the first signs of pre-e.  My bp is elevated when sitting, but not when I am on my side.  I had to do a 24 hr. urine test yesterday (big fun I can tell you) and there is no protein - but there was a tiny bit on Tuesday, perhaps due to dehydration- and my bloodwork came back fine.  Today I passed an NST and the ultrasound and doppler test for bloodflow at the hospital all came back fine.

I was very surprised as I have no swelling and no headache.  I was supposed to buy a new car next week (which I'm going to try to do, but hubs will have to do all the legwork ahead of time).  My 13 yr old car is really not reliable enough for me to ever put a baby in it.

I am 32 weeks.  I think the dr will induce because the baby is measuring on the big side and we discussed the possibility of needing to do it when the benefits outweigh the dangers.  Right now is too early and since everything else is fine bedrest it is.

How high is your BP? My doctor has been saying for WEEKS that I was heading for PIH or pre-e, and I've managed to fight it off Stick out tongueHopefully you will too!

I do a lot of sitting in the recliner, a lot of eating, and a lot of nesting. Occasionally I will get up and do a load of laundry or put the dogs outside. It's super exciting. You can do it!

In my book is says 142/84, but I don't know if that was the sitting up or lying down measurement.  That is much higher than my normal bp, but it doesn't seem scary high to me.

Oh no, that sucks. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this!

Don't feel bad about the labor classes, I didn't take them and I'm not even on bedrest! I have done my research online and know what I want for the birth, but I didn't want to learn too much or see those videos!

I was on modified bedrest with Paige.  For me it was great because it got me out of work and still paid.  Actually I made more than I would have had I been working the way our commission was set up.  I was an underwriter and when you went out on STD you got an average of the past 12 months commission on top of your full salary each month.  Well, the previous 12 month had been very, very busy with lots of OT so my commission averaged about $2k a month on top of my salary.  We got paid for every file over quota we did and more as we got higher over quota.  Right before I went out on STD we had a meeting where they informed us they were upping quota and cutting the amount we made per file.  Plus the market started to slow.  So had I stayed I would have been lucky to make an extra $300 a month but on STD I got about $1700 a month extra.  Woo hoo!

And since it was modified I just had to stay off my feet more than i was on them.  I mostly spent the days sitting around the house but I would go out to drive thru's for fast food, was allowed to go to my childbirth and baby basics classes, was allowed to go for my shower.  It was the best of all worlds.

Oh that's really not too bad! My OB has been monitoring my BP closely for awhile- the highest reading I've gotten was 140/90, but it went down to 133/86 when I was laying down. My OB said once I hit 140/90 and it doesn't go back down, I'll be put on bedrest, but until then she is letting me work some as long as they are short jobs. And no lifting. She really thought working would shoot my BP up high and it would stay there, but so far so good!

I was terrified because I started having readings that were in the 130's range/80's range, and EVERYTHING online says that once BP goes up it doesn't come back down. So far I've been okay though... I just go into every appointment knowing I could be sent to L&D or put on bedrest.

Are you doing weekly NSTs/BPPs? I go in twice a week and they monitor my BP during that as well.

I think once your bottom number gets over 100 they start talking induction/hospitalization. I'll keep my fingers crossed your numbers stay down! Have you had protein in your urine?

I may get flamed for this, but I think some OBs overreact to elevated blood pressure (assuming no other signs of pre-e).

I agree with you... I have seen posts on 3rd tri where women were sent straight to L&D for 130's/80's. I've had that nearly every appointment, if not higher. I'm just being monitored closely. I'm so glad my OB is more laid-back about it.

I think my dr may be being overly cautious. I'm not sure if my age is also a factor (I just turned 38 last week, so I have already had a few more tests than a much younger mom would normally have).

No flames here. I agree.

OP- sorry you are being put on bed rest. I am praying that never happens to me because I fear for my husband's life- one of us won't make it out alive, LOL.
