Do you have to sign a new contract to get a new phone?

I haven't gotten a new phone since 2003 or 2004 and just was wondering if you have to sign a new contract when you get another one? I'm really trying to avoid this. I'm with Alltel right now.

To get the discounted price, yes.  If you pay the regular price, you don't have to re-sign.

i do with verizon if i do the new every 2 plan. i always do it though.

Check with your provider.  When we were with Sprint, if you had your phone long enough I think you got a certain amount off a new phone.  Or this may be a great time to shop around different cell phone providers and see if you can get a better deal with another carrier (or see if there is a plan out now that is better than what you have).  Though if you really don't want to change plans, I'd just go into the store and talk to them and see what they can do for you!

I think verizon is the only company that limits you to their phones.  you may be able to get a new one off of ebay and then have it activated. but if its been that long since you have had a phone, chances are you probably qualify for a new one!
