The no good horrible very bad day. (VENT)

Unf. I am waiting for this day to just be OVER. First of all, I should start by saying my dog has been sick the past week and a half (what else is new?). First she had a staph infection, and then before she could go for her follow up visit, she started vomiting and having diahrrhea every day for the past week and a half. So we took her back to the vet Monday for more cultures/blood panels, etc. The combined vet bills cleared out my bank account except for $30 which I had to make it until pay day (today).

Anyway, my alarm didn't go off, so I overslept, and then couldn't get out the door even remotely on time. DH took pity on me and drove me to BART so I could get to the office at a reasonable hour. When I arrived, I had a voicemail from the vet saying that the culture results were in and she needed to come in for a second blood panel today because they were worried... Kind of vague.

Check the bank account and not only do I have no paycheck by the bank has charged me some WEIRD fee of almost $200. WTF? I've never had a fee/charge of $200 and there was no reason for it. The charge overdrafted me, of course.

Then I saw an email in my inbox saying that the company who contracts me out (i'm a freelancer and they manage my payroll) was having issues with their direct deposit and wouldn't be able to pay us today. They were hoping to do it by tomorrow, but since it's a holiday, who knows if the money will go through?

Back to the vet. DH calls me and says they called him and told him she has some bacteria showing up in her sample. Might be BOTULISM?

He is supposed to be a work but rearranges his schedule to get her over there for blood work and has to convince them to give her a shot of antibiotics and intraveneous fluid to kep her from collapsing. (By this morning she was refusing food and super weak) The doctor wouldn't be in until after 3, so we were trying to figure out if we could tag team and I could get her from him (with our one car) and drive back to the east bay to get her to the vet.

Meanwhile I'm juggling 10,000 meetings, and an officewide announcement goes out that an employee has just been fired. (It's a super small office) and people are just being down in general.

Because I was so late I'd forgotten to grab the lunch I'd made so I had nothing to eat and I had no money in my account so yeah. I borrowed some cash to get a sandwich.

The vet called back and said to just bring the dog in in the morning to put her on an IV all day tomorrow and flush out her body.

After work a client wanted to take us out for drinks and I thought getting a drink would be the perfect way to unwind. It was actually the most relaxing, nice part of my day, until I left to go home on BART. Turns out during the time I was at the bar there was a "police incident" at my station and there was no train traffic through the station so they were turning all trains around. I basically had no way to get home since DH is working until 1am tonight. While I was in BART trying to decide what to do my phone died (of course). I ended up taking BART to the other side of town and walking ALL THE WAY to DH's office because I had no bus fare or cab fare (only a pre-paid BART ticket). I couldn't call him either, and his office is in this kind of sketchy warehouse area that is a HIKE from BART.

Anyway, I finally  made it and he took pity on me again and gave me his bank card to go get dinner. Now I'm just waiting until 1am when he gets off work to get a ride home. Is today over yet? Seriously. I haven't had a day like this in a while.

Oooh and I get to hang out at the vets all day tomorrow and possibly spend the 4th of July giving shots to my dog at home. Fantastic!

I do feel better, thanks for the thoughts. I can tell when I'm really upset because I end up with lots of typos and grammatical errors in my posts. lol.

Ah, the joys of owning a boxer.... Sad That really stinks that your pup is going thru this, especially after all that she's been thru. We've experienced the drained bank account due to vet bills too, so I know how you feel.

I'm sorry you had such a stinky day but I hope that things get better, for you and your dog!!

Thanks for all the thoughts, ladies!

I just got done with the vet. I got them to show me how to put the IV on my dog and give her shots so I don't have to leave her there (they are closed for the holiday anyway). You learn something new every day! I now know how to give IV fluids to animals. Anyway, the dog is doing a lot better. The final toxicology screening won't be in until monday but the fluids seem to be perking her up.

She's the most ridiculous dog... the longest we've ever gone without going to the vet since we've had her is three weeks. Indifferent

Anyway, thanks for all the well wishing. Today is already MUCH better. I get to work from home instead of the office and I'm going to BLEACH my entire house to make sure there's no residual bacteria from what she has.

On the flip side, I think I'm done with my vet. She doesn't give us straightforward answers and they overcharge us for everything (not something I can keep doing with a dog with this many issues).

Does anyone have a vet in the inner east-bay area or San Francsico proper that they love? Maybe even a holistic vet that you've worked with that you like?

I'm glad we decided not to go camping with her this weekend. Looks like she'll need to stay in.

Yeah, totally! Coffee!

I've come to terms with living here. I love it for the sentimental value, but you can tell no one has really done anything to keep the city up much in a lot of areas. I see the other side of town where we get our CSA box from is so nice and then I come back to our 'hood and it bums me out just a little.

Sometimes I go to the mall and chat with the shop girls just for fun. Honestly it is the teens that scare me the most because they have no respect for anyone and think they can get away with anything without repercussions. I stopped my shopping cart to let a group of them go by in the grocery store and I was staring straight ahead, spaced out. I guess one of the girls thought I was giving them the eye because she got all worked up and started calling me a b*tch. I just rolled my eyes. They're exasperating. Like 15 year olds trick-or-treating (too old IMHO) and screaming slurs at me after I gave them candy because I had a No on Prop 8 sign on my lawn.  What's up with my HOOD?!?!

I do Heart my next door neighbor, though. He's 96 years old and he waters me lawn and takes out my trash. (Despite numerous requests for him to take it easy)

Yeah, I had a hard time with my students over Prop 8, they were VERY divided on it. I had a girl crying because her best friend was in favor of Prop 8 and she herself has an aunt who is gay. She was devastated her friend, who is a sweet girl, just didn't understand the issue. IDK, to me teens and adults are often similarly immature. I've had adults do the same thing to me as what happened to you with that girl. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell the difference between people my age and my seniors. I had mostly really good kids so I think there's still hope. Anyway, email me if you want to try to set up a time. With summer I'm pretty open. hannikan at yahoo

Yeah, are you ever interested in doing coffee and the saturday farmer's market? I'm not around as much on week days (unless it's at night) but weekends I'm generally here at least part of it.

I know the Vet in Mill Valley right on Blithedale is supposed to be great. My friends SWEAR by them. I should give you my number... I live in SF... for about a month more, and I'll continue to work here. If you need a ride or something like that... I could help. Let me know.
