Does attending a wedding really

require a dress?

My MIL actually wore pants to our wedding.  They were really dressy, "flowy"(for lack of a better term) pants and I thought she looked really nice.  But, I am not really someone you should take fashion advice from.

This is how my MIL showed up to the wedding.  It's dressy for her.  Even a nice blouse and black dress pants would have been better.

lol ... my mom was PISSED.

And here's my mama & stepfather.  Quite the difference in styles.  She was upset about the black initially but I didn't care.  What you really can't see is the red glitter that she shed.  lol

I'm not a dress person at all.  Last dress I wore was my wedding dress and that was 3 years ago.  See my position?

I would wear something a little more fancy that Rev's MIL, but if she was comfortable then that's an important aspect for her, at least.

I like Mrs. Mo... I never wear dresses.  My mother and I wear nice pants and a blouse when we go to see plays.  Thats as dressy as we get.

I see nothing wrong with wearing a pants suit or equivalent to a wedding, esp if its outside because weather determines one's comfort level...

I am a dress girl so I would say - wear a dress but if you don't feel comfortable, wear nice slacks and a very, very nice top with heels. I think you could get away with it.

I spent years doing catering for weddings and I don't think you need a dress unless it is really formal. Just dont wear jeans or anything too casual. Some women wear suits but would probably look out of place if you were in your 20s or 30s. I agree you could do some nice pants with a dressy top and heals no problem!

If you do not want to draw any attention to yourself, wear a dress. Pants may or may not offend; may or may not be seen as appropriate; etc. If you're a bit overdressed, you're not likely to upset anyone; and your dh is in the wedding, so you may be in a picture or two.

That said, don't wear all white. Or a red sequined dress slit up the thigh.

and no, for a wedding, or other meaningful occasion, comfort is not the first consideration. Dressing to demonstrate that you take the event seriously is of first consideration; and you can find a nice outfit that does this, I am sure .

It depends on the couple. I really couldn't have cared less what people wore to my wedding. I didn't even pick out my bridesmaids clothes. Both my MOH and my "Brides-man" went shopping together 3 days before the wedding and she picked out both their clothes because I didn't care and they are procrastinators.

My SIL on the other hand had to approve every thing that anyone picture worthy was going to wear.

If you're close enough to the couple that your DH is in the wedding I'm sure you could call and ask. People called me all the time to ask what they should wear, I didn't think anything of it.
