half-do? updo?

Hi all,

I am mainly a lurker, but I have a question. I am attending a graduation ball with H (military ball, very formal) and need hair ideas. My hair is not quite touching my shoulders and is pretty fine. Any ideas for an updo or half-do? I am at a total loss. Thanks!

I'm really liking the braided looks that are popular right now like this

This is really cute too. I always like a little messy more then totally pulled together, adds a sexy edge I think and less mother of the bride.

I think a lot of it depends on what your dress is like.  What's the style/cut/etc. of the dress?
