SMR - Do you write down your acct log in and passwords?

I have so many accounts and different log in and I am consistenly forgetting them (you know, because I don't already have enough stuff to remember).  Does anyone write this stuff down and put it somewhere safe, just in case?

I do for some, but not all. My banking passwords I know by memory, but things like log ins for loyalty programs (I'm thinking of airlines miles) I keep in a file. I have the same password, or a variation there of for some really low level things (bad I know). I hear ya though because I also need to know a lot of passwords and combinations at work so I always need tricks to remember.

I have a list of my logins & passwords. However, my passwords only have the starting & ending character. For example, if my password was Password1 then it says P*******# on my list.

It's enough to jog my memory, but wouldn't really help anyone else.

I have just started doing this.  The password situation at my job is out of control.  I have it all stored in an Excel file called Misc Junk.  That way it's not obvious what it contains.

I don't but my husband does. He also has a different password for every account and they are a complicated mix of numbers and letters. He keeps the page in our fire proof safe.

I have them all written down on the inside of a folder where I keep all our bills that need to be paid.  Not the most secure place, but I'm the only one who pays all the bills and like I tell dh if I'm ever hit by a bus or something, he's gonna know this information.

Yes - I can remember most of them, but do refer to it fairly often. It's also for if something happens to me. DH wouldn't have a clue about any of those things.

no, we don't.  but on my list to go in our safety deposit box at the bank is a full list of accounts, user names and passwords in case anything happens to either one of us.  we are each responsible for half of the bills (even though a joint account, we split paying responsiblity), so we don't necessarily know all of the other's info.

My momma always said you can't fix stupid. I guess she was right.

I do...I just can't remember them all, especially when some of them keep changing the requirments for tougher and tougher passwords that I can't remember.

Hey look, I have 2 posts now...until they change systems again and they all get deleted once more....

I have it all written down...somewhere Wink

My dad broke his neck and almost died this past year.  He does online banking and pays all his bills and if he didn't have his ledger in his office, my mom would have been in serious trouble.  She isn't super computer literate, so we had to help pay some bills.

I like this idea.

I never used to write down my passwords, but it seemed like every month I was having to reset my passwords on all the different sites I pay bills on.  I finally wrote them all down on a cheat sheet that I keep in a file with all my bill stuff.

I hate how complex passwords are getting.  I understand the need for extra security, but my bank just changed their online banking system and I had to create a 8 digit (min) password with a combo of letters, numbers and symbols!  Symbols?  Really?  So annoying!

Can I just say that, of all the idiots, in all the idiot villages, in all the idiot worlds, you stand alone, my friend.

I have them written down digitally - I keep them stored by type in a password management program on my iPhone. My phone has a lock code and the app itself has a password requirement, so you'd have to know both to get to them (and my husband does).

I have an excel sheet, but I have only the first and last letter/number on the passwords.  Jogs my memory, but noone else would ever figure it out. :)

Yes, I have some written down.  Some are in code to jog my memory to what the PW is.  But at work, there are so many passwords to know, and you can't repeat them, and they must be so long and blah blah blah I can't keep track of all of them, all the time! :)

Like someone else posted upthread, I have a  "In case I die" document that has links to all my passwords and account numbers - where assets are, debts, etc.  I don't want anyone to have to weed through papers and wanted everything orderly.  (Not that I'm planning on dying anytime soon, mind you...)

You might remember, I posted about this a while ago.   Another thing that I read that I thought was a good idea was if you have a generic password, one way to change it is to use the first two letters of the site you're on.

So if my password is password1, my Nest password would be password1NE.  I thought this was clever.

Nope, I just use the same login info for all my accounts. I know that's probably not the safest thing to do, but I'd never remember them otherwise.

I handle all of our online bank accounts.  I went on a trip a few weeks ago without my husband and made him a list of all of the logins/passwords just in case anything happened to me.  Now that I am safely home, the list will either be destroyed or put in the safe deposit box.

No, I use the same 3 long ins and passwords over and over again.  It's not the safest thing because if you figure out how to get into one account you can get into a lot of others.  But it helps me remember and my passwords aren't very obvious.

Yes I do. They aren't all in the same place though, and obviously aren't kept with the account information/bills/statements they apply to.
