Tell me more about Riverview!

Well ladies, I've been scouring mls and realtor sites looking for potential homes and neighborhoods to move into. From all our online researching, we realized that living in Tampa was pricier than we expected (as we compared it to our current life/costs living here in Chicago).

Here in Chicago we rent and have a 1700 sq ft condo (2bed/1ba) with exposed brick throughout that is convenient to everything/walking distance.... and we pay just a little over $1100. We cannot find anything comparable in South Tampa. However living here in Chicago isn't where we want to start a family and we are ready to move to warmer climate for our health.

I have seen several new properties out in Riverview and we are interested in renting a home in that area. We figured we don't need the urban feel since we'd prefer something more quiet and residential... and from previous posts, it seems as Riverview is less than a 30 min drive away to SoHo/Hyde Park/downtown. We also know that the Riverview is a community that's currently growing - which is exciting!

Any thoughts about Riverview? I'm working with a realtor to schedule out some showings in that area when I fly out in a couple weeks but your input is helpful as well!

I live in Riverview and love it!! ive spent my "florida life" living in South Tampa so when we started looking for a house over a year ago  we couldn't afford to stay in soho.

When we started looking at Riverview I was not excited but we live in North RIverview which is still close to everything it takes me 20 minutes to get to soho on the crosstown (or 30 min straight) and I know I worked in soho.

The mall is very close, all major supermarkets and places like wal-mart and target..  it's a great location,  safe and beautiful!

I live minutes away from Riverview, my inlaws lives in the Pavillion Community off of highway 301. Close to everything! I live in Valrico off of Bloomingdale which is right next to Riverview we're looking at a new community in Bloomingdale called Watson Glenn. There's also Winthrop, Brookswood (i think thats the name) So many community popping up. I love Brandon/Riverview area its a growing community and its just lovely. You have highway 60, crosstown, Interstate 75 to connect to Tampa so its all good.

Hi! I don't live in Riverview, but I work there a lot. Most of the families that I work with live in Panther Trace, which is a huge planned community. They all love it, but it is definitely suburbia.

Riverview is an up-and-coming area, but there are so many parts to it. Panther Trace is much farther south while there are areas of Riverview that are a lot closer to Tampa. You can drive north to south in Riverview and go about 9-10 miles east or west, same thing. This can make an impact on whether you are 15 min from Tampa or 30. The south part of Riverview is newer and has all of the new shops and things, but the north part of Riverview is closer to Tampa.

There are not too many restaurants around that are not chain restaurants, but, in Tampa, there are lots of great non-chain restaurants and it could be 20-40 minutes to get to them, depending on where you live.

Good luck! I hope you find something you like!

I live in NE st pete, and we rent a 2/1 house with a good sized yard and we pay 1095/month plus utilities. we are just a couple minutes north of dwntwn st pete, and about 20 minute drive tampa. (just over 275) sometimes it takes longer just depends on the time of day you go.

I replied in your original post about living in Riverview.  Feel free to email me at stevensweaver at gmail . com and I'll answer any specific questions you may have.  I was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area.  My DH and I have lived in Riverview for two years and love it.  We commute 20 mins to I4 which will get you to Downtown Tampa, St Pete/Clearwater, or Orlando.  We are 5 mins from I75.  The area is really growing and has very reasonable home prices for new or lived in homes.  Some of the homes in own neighborhood are going for less than we paid two years ago and are one room larger.  You can get some great deals on new homes too.  Panther Trace is a great community but they have high community fees.  We live across the street in South Pointe.  Our HOA monthly fee is $28 compared to over $100 for Panther.  There are several other communities the largest being Summerfield.  Sorth Fork is also very nice.  There is a brand new bowling alley with a bar.  There are some down home places to eat and a few chains.  We usually head into Brandon or Tampa if we are going out for a nice meal.  Otherwise the places around here are fine for everyday eating.  A locally owned pizza shop was voted one of Tampa's Top 10 and the own has won some pizza dough contests in Paris!  It is our favorite place to get pizza and usually do every week.  Email me if you want to know anything else.  Happy House Hunting!
