I love my Dyson DC 14 all floors.  Its the best vacuum i've ever had and i've gone through quite a few.  I don't know if Oreck has a bagless vacuum or not but that would be a big thing for me.  I hate vacuums with bags.  I've never personlly used an Oreck so I can't comment on how the work in comparison.

if your gonna use carpet powder then a dyson isnt a good idea. The little holes in the machine get messed up.

So i ended up getting a vacuum at sears a kenmore progressive vacuum it has vacuum bags that need to be changed every so often. I love to use carpet powder. We got it on sale for 199.99 affordable price thats just my opinion. Oh yeah, you can get it try it out for a month and return it if you dont like it.

Strange, I looked on Consumer Reports and they dont even rate Orecks at all but do rate a few of the Dyson models.  Amazingly there are like 5-6 brands/models that get better ratings than any of the Dysons (not sure if it's just the cost & weight factor that bring them down or what) with a Sears Kenmore getting the top rating.

I love my Dyson, but hate that it's so heavy and needs to get cleaned out. I had an Oreck when I lived at home and it was super lightweight and we didn't have to change the bags too often. I think when my Dyson goes I'll get an Oreck because the Dyson is just too heavy to lug up and down steps.

We love our Dyson Animal! We have 2 dogs and it sweeps up everything!
The thing that I love the most, is that DH loves it...... he loves it so much that he calls it "his Dyson" and says that he will do all of the vacuuming! Thank God for boys and their toys..... LOL

We have the Dyson animal as well I think.  It is the purple ball one.  I love it.  I don't really think it is that heavy.  I can not believe how much stuff it sucks up even after we vaccumed first with our old vaccum.  It is amazing!

We have the Dyson DC17 Animal now and I love it.  I guess it could be heavy if you have stairs, but we don't so it's not an issue.  Growing up my parents had old kenmores and they are great too.

I love my Oreck. We've had it for a few years now and I can probably count only a few times that I have had to change the bag. The little vacuum that comes with it is really handy too.
