I have never managed to nail down a shampoo or conditioner that leaves me happy with my color (I do auburns, and auburns fade - a sad fact of life that I've barely come to grips with). I have most recently been using V05 Extra Body Volumizing shampoo & conditioner (and the price is certainly right - I get them at the Dollar Tree!).
However, there are some other products that I really love for my lots & lots of fine wavy hair (I'm one of those wierdos with tons of super-fine hair). Now mind you, I don't use all of these at once, but vary them depending on what I want to do with my hair that day. Also, just to throw it out there, I do NOT shampoo and condition my hair everyday and its texture is much softer and it behaves better. Ask your stylist if your hair and scalp type are right for this.
When I don't condition in the shower (which I actually only do about once or twice a week), I use a smaller-than-dime-sized amount of Nexxus Headress Weightless Leave-In Conditioner (about $9 at Wal-Mart, a little higher at the supermarket). It performs exactly as the name says - it hydrates my hair without weighing it down or making it feel thick. It's an excellent detangler and the 5.1 oz bottle lasts me months.
If I know I'm going outside at all, being the color-treated gal I am, I will use Garnier Fructis Shine Spray Color Shield with UV Filters (sub-titled "For Color-Treated or Highlighted Hair"). It's easy to overdo it on these shine sprays and end up with greasy straw hair, so try one or two spritzes first and see how it works for feels for you. I paid around $10.
My hair has a texture identity crisis where it's wavy all over except right around the front, so I have to play around a lot with styling and products to get my hair to look like it's all on the same team. I get some help with that from FX Curls Up Curl Reactivator & Defrizzant. I don't really have a frizz problem in the first place but I love the way my hair feels when I use this stuff. I'm usually pretty heavy-handed with my product and I like that it seems hard to OD with this one - I've never really put "too much" in. The small print says it also repairs frizzies and split ends, so hey, that's a neat bonus! I think I pay about $7 a bottle, but it lasts so long that I can't remember.
My two favorite finishing products are Short Sexy Hair's Slept In Texture Cream (it's creates that "toussled, just woke up from an amazing night of sex and doens't my makeup even look perfect" look) and Suave Professionals Freeze Hold Shaping & Finishing Spray (black bottle, spritz not aerosol, the note at the bottom says "Holds as well as Sebastian"). The Short Sexy Hair stuff is about $10 depending on where I find it, and the hairspray is usually $2-3.
I'm not one to spend a lot of money on salon products - for years I spent the extra money on the Matrix Vital Nutrients line or whatever it was called (I don't think they make it anymore) and I honestly don't know if it ever really made a difference. In my experience, good nutrition and a good haircut go much, much farther toward making my hair look good than spending a fortune on products. Especially these days, when you can buy your salon products in the supermarket and from looking at them, how can you really tell them all apart besides pricing and packaging? My stylist makes recommendations but he also knows that if I find something that works great for me I'm very reluctant to change.
