Recommend your fave shampoo/conditioner!

I have been using Pureology for 2 years and I adore it, but it's super pricey (even considering it lasts forever) and I'd love to find something a little less expensive.

If you have a shampoo/conditioner you love for colored/dry/thick hair, recommend it here!

Frizz-ease's new line Weather Works is nice.  I heard that Suave Smoothing is good - it's supposed to be an "imposter" of the Matrix line.  I also heard good things about Sunsilk's Waves of Envy...I am waiting for my sample in the mail.

I always use Redken. It is a step down from Pureology, but it isn't as expensive and works well for me!

I use Fekkai or Aveda. I want to try that Weather Works stuff though.

When I used to use drugstore brands, my stylist said good things about L'Oreal. I didn't like Bumble and Bumble and that is what she sold.

I've been using Treseme and I really like it.  The conditioner is really creamy.

I have thick, highlighted, dry, long hair and really like the Suave professionals.  I use the smoothing shampoo and the humectant conditioner.  I've used the name brand ones that the Suave is 'copied' from and the Suave is comparable....they even smell the same.

I use Fekkai Shea Butter usually.  But, I was in Target and saw the new Pantene for long hair.  Amazing.  I have used for three days now and three great hair days.  (I use Kerastasse, Fekkai and Aveda product as well.  I swear by the Kerastasse Oleo stuff.)

phytojoba

... the price isn't my favorite though.  I wish it were less expensive or that it lasted longer.

I don't know how much Pureology is so this may not be cheaper but I just got Ojon shampoo from Sephora and LOVE LOVE it!  I think it was $24 but I've been having some major dryness and couldn't scrimp on shampoo any longer.  I've only been using it for a few days but it's made a big difference.  It's also for colored hair.  As for conditioner, I use Garnier's leave-in-conditioner.  I think for dry/thick hair a leave-in helps a lot.

I love the JF Weather Works line (and its safe for color-treated hair).  I have tried many different kinds and this is definitely my favorite!

When my salon canned Pureology for being a skanky shampoo sold everywhere, they brought in L'Anza.

I also like Wella and Rusk.

I have never managed to nail down a shampoo or conditioner that leaves me happy with my color (I do auburns, and auburns fade - a sad fact of life that I've barely come to grips with). I have most recently been using V05 Extra Body Volumizing shampoo & conditioner (and the price is certainly right - I get them at the Dollar Tree!).

However, there are some other products that I really love for my lots & lots of fine wavy hair (I'm one of those wierdos with tons of super-fine hair). Now mind you, I don't use all of these at once, but vary them depending on what I want to do with my hair that day. Also, just to throw it out there, I do NOT shampoo and condition my hair everyday and its texture is much softer and it behaves better. Ask your stylist if your hair and scalp type are right for this.

When I don't condition in the shower (which I actually only do about once or twice a week), I use a smaller-than-dime-sized amount of Nexxus Headress Weightless Leave-In Conditioner (about $9 at Wal-Mart, a little higher at the supermarket). It performs exactly as the name says - it hydrates my hair without weighing it down or making it feel thick. It's an excellent detangler and the 5.1 oz bottle lasts me months.

If I know I'm going outside at all, being the color-treated gal I am, I will use Garnier Fructis Shine Spray Color Shield with UV Filters (sub-titled "For Color-Treated or Highlighted Hair"). It's easy to overdo it on these shine sprays and end up with greasy straw hair, so try one or two spritzes first and see how it works for feels for you. I paid around $10.

My hair has a texture identity crisis where it's wavy all over except right around the front, so I have to play around a lot with styling and products to get my hair to look like it's all on the same team. I get some help with that from FX Curls Up Curl Reactivator & Defrizzant. I don't really have a frizz problem in the first place but I love the way my hair feels when I use this stuff. I'm usually pretty heavy-handed with my product and I like that it seems hard to OD with this one - I've never really put "too much" in. The small print says it also repairs frizzies and split ends, so hey, that's a neat bonus! I think I pay about $7 a bottle, but it lasts so long that I can't remember.

My two favorite finishing products are Short Sexy Hair's Slept In Texture Cream (it's creates that "toussled, just woke up from an amazing night of sex and doens't my makeup even look perfect" look) and Suave Professionals Freeze Hold Shaping & Finishing Spray (black bottle, spritz not aerosol, the note at the bottom says "Holds as well as Sebastian"). The Short Sexy Hair stuff is about $10 depending on where I find it, and the hairspray is usually $2-3.

I'm not one to spend a lot of money on salon products - for years I spent the extra money on the Matrix Vital Nutrients line or whatever it was called (I don't think they make it anymore) and I honestly don't know if it ever really made a difference. In my experience, good nutrition and a good haircut go much, much farther toward making my hair look good than spending a fortune on products. Especially these days, when you can buy your salon products in the supermarket and from looking at them, how can you really tell them all apart besides pricing and packaging? My stylist makes recommendations but he also knows that if I find something that works great for me I'm very reluctant to change.
