All these pregnancy posts have me thinking!!

I got induce with my daughter and loved it..I knew when everything was gonna happen so no surprises and since it was my first child I was relieved not to have to "know when I was in labor" like I wouldn't know now?!!
Anyways, I'm due in late August (we find out April Fools day! YEAH!)
Ok so I got to thinking....this one I'd really like to be "surprise my water just broke!" type of pregnancy. If you could choose which would you prefer?? My husband seems to think that the surprise thing really will not be all it's cracked up to be (Well cause I want it to be like at 2:00 in the morning or something you see in the movies!)

I haven't had a baby but my friends water broke and it was quite the surprise (2 weeks before due date). Her husband was across town at a meeting(and had a few beers in him) she wasn't prepared at all, it was late at night, parents live out of town, etc.  So it was not a calm experience I will say that. But all turned out fine and baby is healthy.  But even if you have a planned induce/csection the baby may still come early.  :-)

I've never had children so I'm obviously inexperienced, but I think that I would prefer for it to be spontaneous, for a variety of reasons.

I went into labor on my own, sort of unexpectedly.  I had an NST, and they monitored my contractions after I told them I had some the previous night.  Sure enough, I was in labor so they sent me to the hospital.  It wasn't rush rush, which was nice.  And, my water broke at the hospital.  Huge bonus!  They got to clean up the mess!

But, I did have 2 bags of water, and the second one didn't break until I delivered Ava.  The resident got a lap full of it.  I told him, "I hope those weren't your favorite scrubs, or shoes!".

Well, for mine, my water broke at 2:45 in the afternoon on a Sunday. I really liked how it was spontaneous and all, however, if it was on a weekday, I would have been teaching social studies or science when that happened. But, if I had to do over again - and hopefully will someday - I wouldn't change a thing. I liked not getting all freaked out - nervous about going in, etc. I had a sense of calm come over me when it happened - like "there's no turning back now!" I liked it that way. Plus, I wanted a natural labor, and with a full-on induction, I don't know if I would have been able to sustain it. I had SOME pitocin and got through it - but not from the start. I had some contractions on my own.

I don't have kids either, but I love to hear stories of when people's water breaks.  The DH's reaction is always the best.

I had a 3:20am water breakage. It wasn't a frantic "we gotta go NOW" thing. I realized what was up and said, "Kelly. Hey wake up (gently). My water broke. You need to get up." While he was getting up I went and put my hair up, put my contacts in, put a couple pairs of underwear in my bag and left calmly. I wasn't having hard contractions or anything so I was pretty comfortable despite sitting on a towel and having very wet pants.

I liked that it all happened naturally. The hippie side of me wonders if induction is really that healthy for the baby if it's before a certain time (like 2 weeks after the due date). I know there's tons of scientific research and doctors won't do anything unless it's healthy but I still have that little hippie that says, "don't interfear with nature."

You certainly can just let it happen and have it be a calm, nice experience. Whatever you, your husband, and your doctor decide will be just fine. It's totally a personal preference thing. Good luck!

I've done it both ways and I'm not sure which I prefer.  :)  With my first baby, I was scheduled for a c-section at 8:00 a.m. the day he was born, and my water ended up breaking at home in bed at 4:00 a.m.  I was not expecting it at all and was kind of like "What the heck just happened!  This isn't supposed to happen yet...I haven't taken a shower, I haven't packed my bag..."  Since I had a c-section scheduled I just thought I'd wake up early that day, get everything I needed ready and head to the hospital.  My step-sons were with us that week so we had to wake them up and drag them to the hospital with us as opposed to them going back to their moms that morning and then coming up to the hospital later.  We had to call everyone pretty much at 4:30 a.m. and tell them that there's been a change of plans.  I had to wait a bit for the Dr to get there so I was starting to have contractions  :) It was very hectic, but exciting too!

With my second it was also a planned c-section and I went it at my scheduled time and just waited until it was my turn to go into the OR.  It was laid back.  Everyone showed up at the scheduled time.  We took my son to daycare, my bags were ready and it was uneventful I guess up until the delivery which was great.

My biggest fear was always that my water was going to break at work or when I was out in public.  I don't actually know anyone that that has happened too personally, but I just kept thinking please don't let it happen to me!  :)

I absolutely DO NOT want to know when I am going into labor. It needs to be an "oh crap my water broke" because I get so much anxiety about things. Once I knew when I was being induced I would be a wreck that couldn't sleep or function until after that day was over. I know....I'm a freak.

I was induced with both, but they didn't schedule my induction with my son until close to my edd. I liked being induced. I would like to go on my own once just to see what it is like, but with 2 little ones at home, it was nice knowing who would be here with them, etc.

I had a scheduled induction at 9 days overdue.  I was so uncomfortable at that point; I was happy to see a light at the end of the tunnel.  Everything went well, until it came to pushing.  I pushed for 2 hours with minimal progress.  It ended up being a forceps assisted delivery.  Hopefully next time my hips will have widened enough to avoid that.  I had a significant tear.

I went on my own and loved it that way. My doctor told me that very few women's water actually break on their own and i had to have mine broken in the hospital. I wouldn't want it any other way. You can read my story in my bio but short version, i had contractions saturday night, thought we'd have a baby sunday, nothing happened all sunday, more contractions sunday night and ended up going in monday morning. I knew i was dialated to 3 already from dr. visits so i was at a 4 when i got there. We had Owen at 5:42 pm.

I think i am the opposite of some people. If i knew when i was going to have Owen i would have been going crazy...like freaking out and anxious. Since he came 8 days early i had no idea but had my bag packed and ready to go.

How about this- plan your induce date and have your water break the night before.  ;)  That's how mine went!  So unprepared since it was 1 week before due date and 1 day before we were to be induced!

I was induced at a full 2 weeks overdue and at that point I felt like total shit! I was in labor for 14.5 hours and almost went drug free (not by choice). I ended up with an emergency C-Section because Cooper couldn't handle the pushing.

I had a HUGE fear of my water breaking while I was out in public. If you think that people ask if you have had the baby a lot when you are close to your due date try being 2 weeks overdue. I was ready to choke the next person who said "haven't you had that baby yet" or "are you still here" yes dumb ass if I wasn't still here you wouldn't be talking to me right now.

Wow, guess that the memories are still pretty vivid. :)
