Moving Back to MN!

Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself...I was born and raised in the Twin Cities and moved away for college and then with my now-DH.
We are moving back this summer and I am so excited! I tell everyone that MN is a great place...no it's NOT all farmland :)
We aren't 100% sure where we are going to live...I am going back for a Master's and my school is in Eagan, and my DH may be working around Mpls...what is your opinion on where to look for an apartment or condo?
We want to be close to the city, but a long commute to Eagan could be deadly...
Thanks ladies! :)
A

We live in Boston right now; DH is from here.

It's a great place and a lot of fun, but we knew eventually we'd be moving back to the Midwest.

Hi A!
Along with romarie, I can't help with living area ideas because I live way north of the twin cities and just wanted to say WELCOME!

Hi A,

I currently live in Deephaven, but go to school at St. Kate's in St. Paul.  We are actually looking to buy a house and are kind of having the same problem as you.  Unfortunatly I have only lived here for 2.5 years and don't know a whole lot about the metro area, but nice to meet you anyway!

Hi Tierney!

I know, I haven't lived in MN since 2001 so I feel a little "out of the loop" as far as where to live. I think we're going back at the end of the month to check things out, look around, drive around etc.

I was raised in a suburb of Minneapolis so that area is really what I know best...although we've been searching online and there seems to be a bunch of new condos and apts in St. Paul that look nice!

Where have you been looking for homes? Exciting!

Hi and welcome back to the Twin Cities!

To commute to Eagan and Minneapolis, St Paul would be your best bet since you can get from St Paul to Eagan on 35E and St Paul to Mpls on 94 - so trying to find somewhere that is near exits to both of those would be ideal.  The area around Grand and Victoria is fun and would be convenient to both of those areas - or Highland Park would be good too.  It sounds like you are thinking of renting so you should have lots of choices for apartments in both areas.

Good luck!

Thank you, 92405bride! I think we are going to look at St. Paul--I like Grand Avenue and like you said, we are still close enough to Mpls and other areas.

My DH is searching online right now and has fallen in love with a rental home in Eden Prairie...oh, gosh.

Oh wow - I can tell you from personal experience that the commute from Eden Prairie to Eagan is horrible!  494 at pretty much any time of day is a nightmare.  I grew up in Apple Valley and had a summer job in Eden Prairie and it always took forever....

Oh gosh-even at night? I'm hoping most of my classes are in the evening, and believe me-my parents have warned me that 494--especially by 35W--is horrible!!

Eden Prairie has some great rentals available but we need to look in Bloomington, St. Paul, even around 35W...really anything that's closer to Eagan!!
