Why can we send robots to Mars...

...but there is hardly any "safe" meds a preggo can take? I mean really. We cloned a sheep for crying out loud and people live with man-made artificial HEARTS.  I have to suffer through this nightmare flu on just Tylenol!??!?!

Thanks, rant over.

(My doc also said plain Robitussin, but nothing else. WTF!)

I actually have a rather long list of "safe" meds and have been prescribed other meds than that by my OB. I guess all OBs have different rules but mine is pretty lenient.

My dr told me to use cholraseptic spray. That stuff does not work at all when you have a massive sore throat as I currently do.

Would you want to participate in a clinical study on a drug while pregnant?

I wouldnt!    That is exactly why there are few drugs approved for use on pregnant women.

Because if you were asked to test out a drug on you and your fetus to see how safe it is...you wouldn't.

They did that in the 60s and 70s and bad things happened to the those babies.

That being said. I'm sorry you have the flu :-( Feel better!

I have been getting totally mixed messages on what's "safe." My OB had a longer list than the general practitioner (who examined me today). He was really surprised by some of the stuff on her safe list, and said he'd never recommend it for pregnant women. That freaked me out for sure!!!!!!!!!

I also have blood pressure problems in my pregnancies so some meds are out for me bc of that (ie, Sudafed)

I was like Confused until I realized you were talking about cold medicine.

I, too, have a long list of meds, but I'm with you - there aren't a lot of cold remedies approved.  I had a scratchy throat last week and my husband would tell you, I freaked out like it was the pending apocalypse.

Talk to your OB.  Tell him the Tylenol and Robitussin aren't cutting it.

I was prescribed Zofran and a cough suppressant with codeine during my previous pregnancy... class C, but if you are getting sick, unable to eat, lacking sleep, and generally miserable - that's not good for the baby either.

I've heard that 4 oz of coffee plus 2 extra-strength tylenol work well.  Sorry :(

D'OH! you said flu, not migraine.

Make that a neti pot for congestion, benadryl for sleep, and lots of hot water and lemon.  Feel better!!
