I agree with PKW, they knew you had plans and no one ever said that visiting meant you had to cancel your plans. I say you should allow them to come, visit, whatever, but the day of your GTG let them know in advance that you will be gone that day for whatever times and you can meet them for dinner or something later in the night. I am sure they can entertain themselves for one single afternoon, they are adults afterall.
