Interview Question

I interviewed for a position over the course of Feb and early March.  I had 4 rounds of interviews and thought things went relatively well.  After the 3rd round I was told it was down to me and one other candidate.
Two weeks after the last round of interviews, I sent a follow-up email to the director to see what the status was and got the response that they are finishing up interviews and will determine who will move on to the 2nd round by the end of the week.  Odd response since I had already gone through 4 rounds, but I let it go. It's been 3 weeks since I've heard from the the them.
Yesterday, I noticed that they had reposted the job.

Does anyone think this is poor form on their part?  I was kinda annoyed, but planned on letting go. I was talking to my former manager yesterday and she asked if I called them out on it b/c it was really poor form on their part.
I have no intention of calling them out, but wanted to see what others thought of the situation.

Sounds weird to me. Something is going on internally, where some higher up probably didn't like what they saw in the final candidates and said try again.  I do think it's poor form on their part that they didn't contact you, especially since they flat out told you you were a final candidate.  But this just happened to a good friend of mine too so I guess it's not that uncommon.  Sorry, though.  That sucks, especially when they get your hopes up and everything.

Personally, I agree that it's poor form on their part, but I wouldn't call them out on it.

In my job search experience, poor form is the norm, not the exception.  In my most recent job search (a year ago - I got disgusted and stopped looking after this happened), I was interviewed THREE times, each time by increasingly more senior, "management" people.  Since I had (and have) a job, this meant taking off from work THREE separate times.  After all that, over a month of interviewing, they sent me a letter that they decided not to fill the position after all.  WTF?

I think companies are sometimes confused about what they want, and managers may give poor instruction to HR, which exacerbates it.

I'm about to start the job search again (still unhappy where I am), but I'm dragging my feet 'cause it SUCKS.

GL to you.

That's not very professional on their part, but I don't know if there's much you can do at this point, unless you want to call them to confirm that you're not under consideration anymore.

I would definitely contact them to confirm the status of your application/candidacy, if nothing else. They owe you a response one way or the other. You can say you need to know for planning purposes, etc. That sucks. I am going through the job search process myself and it's been going on for months and it's horrible. I feel your pain.

I would need to call to get some closure, but that's just me. It would also be helpful to ask them, for future reference, why you were not chosen (which is tricky to do without sounding defensive, but can be done).

I would NOT call them.  1) You wouldn't want to work for a company who treats potential employees that way.  2) If someday you did want to work there -  you don't want them to think you are difficult or if you should be hired by another company who deals with them you don't want anything bad attached to your name.  Figure that you are no longer in consideration and move onto a company that will value your skills.

I second what mlmbwr said.  I wouldn't bother calling them.  They are in a position where they are trying to attract talent and impress their candidates and if they couldn't do it well during the interview process, then I wouldn't have much confidence how one gets treated if she was an actual employee there and already "won".  Also, I know it's sometimes worth learning went wrong in an interview in order to learn from it but at the same time you have to consider the source - I am not sure their opinion is worth merit and would just consider it as simply an improper fit and hold out for someone who likes you for you.  I think they did you a favor and spared you.
