Wow...life is too short.

I just found out that someone I knew in HS died two days ago. I was a sophomore and he was a freshman, and then a new school opened and he went there. So I didn't know him very well, but we were in marching band together. I remember our flute section picking on him because he was a short little roly poly freshman flute player who would try to test us once in a while. :) I saw him many years later at Office Depot and hardly recognized him because he was so tall and thin, and his voice was so deep lol. I apologized for picking on him in high school and we laughed about it. He seemed like such a great guy, and he had a beautiful girlfriend who must be absolutely heartbroken. No one knows what happened, but apparently the police ruled out suicide and foul play.

I'm so sorry. That can be so tough, especially when you're (we're) young. I had a friend in HS who I lost touch with. He committed suicide a couple of years ago, and no one really knows why. So sad.

Gosh, reading that made me sad.   I remember the first classmates from my school to die.  There was a guy who was a senior and was accidentally shot by a friend during the school year.  He was on the phone with his girlfriend at the time when the gun went off.  The school is located in a very rural location so everyone lived in the rural / country setting, so it took a long time for the ambulance to arrive... there was a big debate over if the ambulance arrived earlier would it have made a difference in saving his life.

Also, the year after graduation a very popular girl was driving home in a rain storm.  She was speeding and lost control of her car.  It ran head on into a semi-truck and went under the the trailer.  She was killed instantly (decapitated), and her brother who was also in the car with her died in the hospital a few days later.  It was so tragic I remember because of that one accident their parents lost 2 of their 3 children.

Life is to short, I've been noticing, as I've seen good people taken to early in life.  It makes you want to live the most of yours.

I am so sorry to hear that.  It must be devastating for his friends and family.  It is so sweet that you apologized to him though!

At 35 my DH has had two very close friends die.  One of a prolonged battle with cancer and the second with a massive heart attack - a total shock!

I would love to say it gets easier to handle, but it does not.  It is awful.  We really try to live every day, love each other and always tell our friends and family how much they mean to us.  You just never know when something like this hits your family!

Now I am sad ;o(

It's just amazing (and unfortunate) how sudden tragedies can occur. It also makes me wonder if there's anyone else out there who has died and I don't even know about it. Weird thought, I know...

Another band member from high school was killed in a random drive-by shooting, but that was actually during HS. It was so strange b/c things like that don't normally happen in happy, suburban Loudoun. (Countryside to be exact) He was another one I didn't know very well. After they're gone, it makes you wish you'd tried harder to get to know them.
