s/o s/o what do friends kids call you? kids in general?

There is no question by twin sis's kid will call me auntie sstrug ...that's the way we roll.

but as our friends kids get older...we have some that do the aunt and uncle thing and some that are just first names......doesn't matter to me either way but I just want to know what they want me to be (don't want to say come by Aunt Sstrug if i am just supposed to be sstrug)

i did freak out at dh's christmas party this year though when the boss's 13 year old daughter called me Mrs....last name and i said oh you can just call me SStrug and she said to me actually i can't ...boss's wife (who is awesome awesome) was standing right there and said yeah she can't...you are in that age set now.

what about random kids? when do you really need to pull out the call me Mrs....thing?

Out here in hippy-ville everyone calls everyone by their first names. Kids even call a lot of teachers by their first names, and most of their friends' parents, as well.

We used to refer to our clients as Mr. or Mrs. soandso, but we were corrected so many times that we've resorted to first names.

unless they are close friends of mine, I'd want to be called Mrs. LastName.  That's what I was taught growing up, I view it as respectful.  THEN if I say "ok, you can call me FirstName", it's fine...but I want to be the one to allow it.  I don't think children should be calling adults by their first names (unless they are aunt/uncle).

I find this new trend of "oh this is Miss sstrug" to be unbelievably rude and I've told my friends with kids my feelings on the topic.  Most of their kids aren't old enough to speak yet, so it will be interesting to see what happens when they are.

we're mr & mrs 99% of the time (cept for babies)

i don't know what age it switches...

growing up it was always mr & mrs unless we spent weekends / vacas together.  I'd like to keep with that.

My best friends kids call me Aunt Cara, but many of my other friend's kids call me Miss Cara.  I'll probably do the same with our DD.

My friends' kids just call me by my first name.  Every now and then the parent will throw in a "Go give Aunt Suecadence a hug" but it is totally in a jokey manner.  I am not comfortable with a friends' kid calling me "Mrs." and honestly, I wouldn't want a random kid to either.  In social/family situations, I just prefer it to be casual.

This hasn't really been an issue since we don't know many friend with small kids but my co-worker has his son call me "Miss Elissa"...which is so cute.  Mrs. (last name) is awkward for me as that's MIL's name but I also don't want little kids calling me by my first name either. I'm fine with Aunt too although I'm no one's aunt yet.

The only little kids in my life (BF nephew and brother's gf's son) call me miss shivy, which I'm fine for with them.  They are like family members, but not close enough for them to call me aunt.

I'm not sure how I'll feel about other kids and about my kids friends.  I don't know if I'll respond to my married name.  I really haven't had anyone call me Mrs Lastname.

I only have 1 friend with a kid and he calls me "Laura?" like it's a question, but he's only 4. I prefer being called Laura, not Mrs B*$^#.

Anyway when we have kids I will have them do the same thing we did. If the person is older than your parents you address them as Mr & Mrs unless otherwise directed.

I always called my aunts & uncles by their first name.  that's how my fam rolls.

I'll have my (imaginary) kids will call my friends Ms. FirstName or Mr. FirstName.  They'll call random adults either Mr/Ms/Mrs/Miss LastName or Mr/Ms/Miss FirstName...depending on which is known.

hoping to be...

I'm an only child and so is DH (sort of, he has stepbrothers, who he's not close with) so I will never be an aunt and he won't be an uncle.  I never called my aunts 'Aunt Betty' or anything like that.  I haven't really encountered random kids, so I'm not sure what they call me.  One of my close friend's little boy is still too young to talk, but his mom refers to me as Auntie *RomeRomance* when she's talking to him, so who knows.  I have one friend who is now pg and we grew up together like sisters so when she told me the news, she told me I was going to be an auntie, which I thought was so cute.  I really don't care if kids call me Mrs. or Ms. <last name>  I'm more of a first name kind of gal.

I'm Aunt Mags to my sister's kids and DH is Uncle Mike.  I don't know random kids, but extremely close friends' kids call me Aunt Mags and other not quite as close friends just Mags and I think we'll do the same with ours when we have them.  It freaks me out a little to have kids call me Mrs. Lastname, though I'm fine with it when adults do it, not sure why exactly because that's what we used with adults, never first names - it was either aunt/uncle or mr/mrs.
