Has anyone ever made their own throw pillows?

If so, what are the steps and is this difficult to do?

Thanks!

Yeah, I've made a bunch.  It depends on how difficult you want them to be- for super simple ones;

decide if you are going to use a pre-formed insert or stuff it with loose batting.  If using a pre-formed, cut 2 fabrics squares (or whatever the shape), about 2 inches wider than the form.  Lay it inside out on the form, and go along the edges and pin the fabric snuggly along the form with straight pins.  Leave the 4th edge open, and pull the form out.  Sew along the pins.  For the 4th side, use a flexable measuring tape, and measure the form, then pin and sew about 80% of the 4th side closed.  Trim any excess fabric, then turn right side out.  Stuff the form back in, through the 20% opening and hand sew the rest closed.

It's the same for loose batting, except you can make the size and shape anything you want it to be, no measuring needed.

Good luck, and show us pics when you are done!!

I recommend buying the inserts - much easier and much better looking than using the stuffing. Plus, if you sew pocket or zipper, they can be removed for washing the cover.

I did this for an 8th grade class.....if I can do it in 8th grade, I'm sure you can do it now!  All of the instructions in the posts above look great - good luck!  I thought about making covers for some of my pillows, but I couldn't decide on a fabric!

I've made a bunch.  Most of mine are pretty simple, either square or rectangle.  I just cut the fabric about 2 inches bigger than I want the pillow to be, pin the two pieces together inside out, then sew them.  Then you just stuff the pillow and sew the last edge.  I bought several cheap pillows from places like ikea since they are only a couple of dollars and then I basically cover them.

I actually just got done making my own throw pillows. You can do it the traditional way with fabric and cutting them into squares. Or I found an easier way. I found decorative thick Napkins in the clearence bin for a buck at bed bath and beyond. They are the perfect size and shape. And they come in such amazing designs. You just place the fabric inside out and pin it together. sew up three of the sides turn it right side out and stuff the pillow with stuffing, or what I did was stuff my old pillows in since they were already the perfect form and I wouldnt be wasting a perfectly good pillow. Then sew up the fourth side. No one believes my pillows are napkins and how cheap I made them for. I chose to do a print on one side and a solid on the other. I also made a round pillow for my bench just by sewing two sides of one of the napkins together and sewing the sides down to fit a decorative rope in to tie to sides.

I made some out of some Target napkins I loved (the white ones with a single large flower).  They didn't match my dining room, but they matched my living room and they turned out to be the right size for a form.
