Hiny flu vaccine coming

Just heard on the news that H1N1 vaccine will be here in mid October. A few outbreaks in Aspen and Ft. Collins school districts. I know it's been discussed a little. Will you get it?

My beautiful girls: Hadley 9.28.06, Emmerson 11.29.08 and Pilar 2.07.11, born premature at 33.3 weeks.

Still waiting for the rec from our pedi, but if they say yes, then we will.  DS seems to be very susceptible to all upper respiratory things, and having been in the hospital when he had influenza A this spring (despite having had the flu shot), I'd rather err on the side of caution with him.  It was definitely no party, and very frightening.

I think we probably will, as long as it is endorsed by our pediatrician.  DS has been sick almost constantly since starting daycare and I would like to help prevent anything that we can.

With the stuff I take for MS "modulating" my immune system, seasonal vaccines offer a way for me to selectively protect myself without undoing the good my meds do...  (Plus, I am a TOTAL wussy about the flu, and not afraid to admit it).

I am going to go at lunch today and cough up 15 bucks (not bad) to get my "regular" flu shot out of the way and I will get the H1N1 shot when it becomes available  as well, if I can.

I probably won't for myself since I usually don't do well with the normal flu vax and I'm out of the recommended age groups for it, but I'm leaning towards yes for the kids.  To be fully honest, I don't feely completely 100% comfortable with it. I can't shake the "it feels like a rushed job" feeling with it, BUT, considering the deaths of young children from H1N1, including healthy children, as much as I dread it, I'd rather have sickly children than dead ones. Our ped's office is recommending it, so I'm leaning towards it and hope we can get a p-free version of it.

Definitely!  Over coffee with a friend who works in Infectious Disease @ one of the big local hospitals, I asked her opinion, and she said that we should all be getting the H1N1 shot.

She's seen a bunch of super-sick people (who were otherwise quite healthy before), including a healthy 22 YO athlete who has been sick for weeks and can barely walk up the stairs, and a 50 YO who was otherwise healthy that has been on a ventilator for 2 weeks with H1N1.  They're trying to plan for all possible eventualities, but she said that they're pretty concerned about being able to take care of all the sick patients (esp. if some staff are also out sick).

Yep, we all will -- both the regular and the H1N1.  The Seedling is due during flu season, and the boys typically get pretty sick too.

DH & I are usually OK but will get both this year too.

My sister will probably make me (she works in influenza research) - but I really hate shots so I will put off getting any for as long as I can.  Besides, as I told her, my getting the flu is the only way I foresee getting any time off from work any time soon, and that may not be a horrible thing.  (J/k - kind of)

Yes, as soon as it comes out.  DH's arthritis meds compromise his immune system and I work in a school... I don't need to be bringing it home to him.
