F/U: Legendary family recipe...

I posted on Saturday about making the legendary family recipe for pound cake for my SIL's birthday.  Wouldn't you know, halfway through baking, I realized that I didn't think I'd put enough flour in (my neighbor had come over and was standing in my kitchen talking to me while I was trying to alternate mixing in milk and flour - recipe for disaster).  Sure enough, I hadn't... and in flipping the first cake out of the pan to prep the pan for the second cake, I gave myself a nasty burn on the palm.  I was not a happy camper and couldn't use my left hand very much for the rest of the day. :(

Luckily, the second cake came out perfectly, and even FIL said it was more perfect-looking than his mother's cakes (ie, the original keeper of the recipe) and tasted right.  I'm just happy it all turned out okay. :)

With that said, someone had asked for the recipe... so here you have it:

Grandma's Baltimore Pound Cake

3 c flour
3 c sugar
1 tsp salt
3 sticks of butter, softened
5 eggs, separated
1 TBSP vanilla extract
1-1/8 c milk

Beat 5 egg whites.  Mix 3 c flour with 1 tsp salt and set aside.  Cream together butter and sugar.  Mix in egg yolks and vanilla.  Alternate mixing in the flour with the milk.  Fold in beaten egg whites.  Pour into pan and put in COLD oven.  Heat to 325 degrees and bake for 1.5 hours or until toothpick comes out clean.
