shutters or no shutters

Trying to decide if I should add shutters to my house.  If so, what color? The same as the trim?

I think it looks great without shutters. But I can't really picture what it would like like with so maybe I'm not much help.

Wow...you have an amazing house!  It's beautiful.  I'm not sure about the shutters because of the windows on the first floor.  I don't like shutters that aren't rectangular but I don't know if it would look funny if you only had them on the windows upstairs.  They would definitely add some dimension and depth to the front of the house though.  If you do them I would definitely do them the same white as the trim.

I say no shutters.  I really only like them on really old houses or the standard colonial.  Your house is beautiful without them.

thanks ladies!
I actually posted this a long time ago on the "other" board, before my house was painted.  The girls over there said I should keep the shutters, but now that I see it painted, and without them...i tend to like it more. It feels more open and 'clean'...if that makes any sense.

For whatever it's worth...here's the photo WITH shutters, before we painted it.

I would originally say keep the shutters if I hadn't seen your "after" pic without them.

I definitely like the house without the shutters. It is a much cleaner look like you said yourself.

Do you live in Hopkinton?  That's the house that was in the Nest magazine, right?  We were in that issue, too!  I live in Milford :)

Yes, I do live in Hopkinton! that's too funny about the magazine!  did they tell you that you were going to be in it? They didn't tell me...I just submitted it, answered some random questions (not a big fan they included our price...I guess it's public knowledge, but it was still strange), and then randomly got a call from a couple friends who saw it.

first of all i love your house! I like it w/ and w/o shutters but since they're already off I'd say w/o shutters it does look cleaner

I think shutters would finish off the look nicely.  You could keep them the same color as the trim or go darker, depends what kind of look you're going for.  If it were my house I'd go darker, I think it would look very elegant.  You have a beautiful home!
