Moving to Milwaukee area

My DH currently works in Milwaukee and I work/live in upper MI. We are looking to move to the area in early summer. We want to live North of Milwaukee and I was wondering what areas are nice? I am a special edu teacher so what schools are good? Are teaching jobs hard to find?? Any information would be very helpful. Also what is the going rate for daycare??

Are you looking for immediately north of Milwaukee or a bit further.  Any of the north shore communities are nice.  Whitefish Bay, Mequon, Port Washington. 

 I have a few friends that are teachers and finding jobs outside of MPS was difficult.  Not sure about special ed though.  I have always thought there was a pretty big demand for that specialty, but I am not a teacher.  Sorry, not really helpful. 

Daycare really varies on where you are living.  I have friends that pay $200 a week out further in the country and then some that pay closer to $300 a week closer to the metro Milwaukee area.  These are for centers.  It is much cheaper for in home.

I'm not sure what areas you should look at as I live pretty far north of Milwaukee, but I am a special education teacher.  Regarding the job market, it depends on what area of special education you are looking to get into.  Most positions around here are cross categorical w/ and emphasis in a particular area.  LD  positions are the hardest to find.  I work with students with severe/profound cognitive disabilities and you will find more job opportunities with that particular population.  EBD is also somewhat easier to find a position.  The downside right now is the economy (like everywhere).  I took the school year off to stay home w/ my kiddos and they interviewed for a long term sub.  My position (not a position most people would choose) had a lot of candidates...which prob. wouldn't happen if the economy wasn't so bad right now.  The job market in special ed. is suffering, but not quite as bad as regular education.

 As far as daycare is concerned...it depends on where you live.  A lot of the suburbs outside of Milwaukee are a minimum of $230 per week for an infant.  The better daycares are higher than that.  Good luck w/ the relocation!

I know I'm super late to this post, but I live North of Milwaukee. I think good areas to look are Mequon, Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale, Whitefish Bay, and Shorewood ( I listed them furthest north to closest to the city). I'm not sure about teaching jobs, but we just bought a house a little over a year ago and those were the areas we looked in. :) Hope that helps a little.
