advice on car seats/taxis/airtravel

We've pretty much decided not to take our car seat on the flights at Christmas (space and safety issues). We don't need it in the US, as we'll use my sister's carseat. Here's the thing, it'll cost us £100 to park for 3 weeks at the airport, but £45 to take a taxi. But if we take a taxi (on dual carriage/motorway) we'll need a carseat. So.... we can take our carseat in a taxi and check it (not keen, as don't trust baggage handlers), drive our own car nad park, and leave the carseat there, or take a taxi (20min) without (REALLY not keen on this, but it's technically an option). WWYD?

I'd just take W in the taxi without the car seat. It'll save you money, and you won't have to worry about the car seat on the plane. I know it's always a worry when you can't buckle your LO in, but if you tell the taxi driver to be careful it should be ok.

Can you try and speak to the taxi company and see if they have car seats available or have a friend drive you?

The only friends we have with big enough cars (to fit 3 adults, baby, seat and luggage) are other mums - who would have to have their LOs -and drop us off at antisocial hours. So we're reluctant, as it feels a pretty big favour.

I'm not sure the taxi firms would own car seats? I hadn't thought of it though and might ask.

One of my students used to come to school in a taxi and it had a seat for him. I would ask for sure.

I am sure there must be taxi drivers with kids.

See if you can book a taxi company that will provide a carseat. Some will.

Oh yes, I agree.  The last taxi we got to and from the airport had carseats available.  It was based from the airport, so maybe try there?

I've just emailed off to the airport taxi company - fingers crossed! (DH was so sceptical of this, he made me doubt it.)

Some taxi companies have car seats- especially the people carriers which have them built into the seat.

I just heard back from the taxi company - they don't have carseats b/c you don't legally need them in taxis. *sigh*

it might cost more but a high end company might have them?

we always had them provided when we got a car through Virgin but I don't know who they contract, through...
