Is there an easier way to clean tile grout?

Other than just scrubbing & scrubbing?

Our shower is completely tiled, and it's driving me nuts. Seems like no matter how much I scrub, the grout is still icky.

It doesn't help that it's older tile & grout, I know, but still.

This is my first time dealing with real tile. Is there an easier way?

Or should I start trying to talk DH into completely re-doing our shower (which probably isn't gonna fly)?

TIA!

Smile

I scrub mine with Tile Guard grout cleaner and a toothbrush and have no trouble at all.

I use a spray bottle with diluted bleach. RARELY have to scrub at all.

I don't really think there is a better way.  All the tile showers I have ever messed with were impossibly hard to clean.  Once you do get it all clean, I recommend a daily shower cleaner like the one from Method to keep it that way.  I have been using it and hardly ever have to scrub my shower.  You can also seal your grout once it is clean to keep it from getting stained again.

We recently used Dremel felt polishing discs with baking soda to clean our grout.  After a few hours of scrubbing years of grime with a toothbrush (we're renting, and when normal cleaning efforts didn't do anything, I assumed the grout was grey.  Yuck!), this really sped up the process!

Once you get your grout clean, be sure to seal it. Most people don't realize this is something that should be done every so often. It helps keep mold, mildew and dirt from staining your grout. I've also heard good things about ZEP grout cleaner...

Ditto this.  My MIL (the queen of clean) deep cleans her grout twice a year and reseals after the cleaning.  It always looks great!

Vinegar is great, too.  Spray it on heavy, let it soak, then scrub with a toothbrush and rinse.

We just bought a grout cleaner with sealer at Home Depot. It worked great. Not sure on the brand.
