H1N1 shots...

DH, Bella and I are going to stand in line at one of the WIC centers on Friday and try to get our H1N1 vaccine.  That being said...have any non-pregnant nesties gotten the H1N1 vaccine?  I've called and they've assured me that yes, all 3 of us qualify to get the shot, but I just haven't heard a lot of talk about non-pregnant women getting the vaccine...

My OB's office hasn't gotten the shot yet. Thanks big gov for jacking up your plan again. So glad to hear pregnant women are "priority" to get the shot when nearly every pregnant woman I know has not been able to get it yet.

That said, not sure I even want the shot but it still royally sucks that many pregnant women who do want the shot haven't been able to.

I've heard that, too...and am hopeful that in 3 weeks, her pedi will have enough for us to get a booster.  they are doing their first H1N1 vaccine clinic on saturday and have a whopping 40 doses of the injectable vaccine.  just unbelievable!

i agree that it's crappy...that being said, you could go stand in line at one of the WIC centers and get the vaccine...(not ideal, i know).

Yes I could do that but I shouldn't have to. Nor should the 7 or 8 month pregnant woman with swollen feet. Her OB should have gotten the vaccine first. And personally, I only trust my OB when it comes to medical procedures including a controversial shot. I'd rather get it there if I were going to get it at all.

i agree...i also think it's crap that my daughter's pedi got a whopping 40 doses of the injectable vaccine...so for all the under 2 patients his practice sees, 40 is supposed to cut it?!  it's all crap, but if i can get us all vaccinated by standing in a long line, i guess that's what i'll have to do.  Sad

I'm getting mine on Thursday (no baby in the belly). The hospital just got the vaccine last week and they split it up into priority tiers.

This is just another example of why we don't need government health care

I'm not getting it, but only because I'm not pregnant and I don't have an infant.  Abbie got her regular flu shot and that's it.  Her being 5, I'm not concerned.  With tamiflu being effective to treat it, I wouldn't feel right getting the shot when there's such a shortage.  I'd feel like i was taking it away from someone who really needs it.

At the Harris County Health Dept/WIC clinics, it is completely first come first served (or at least it was when we went last Monday).  Anyone could get it.  So frustrating that the priority groups aren't being addressed first.  I am glad someone is getting it other than OBs, as my OB and PCP do not plan to carry the vaccine (my OB does no vaccines period), and DS's pedi still only has the mist (which he can't get due to asthma).

DS and I went to our local health clinic last Monday and we were both able to get it.  I wasn't expecting to get it, but they were insistent that I get it.

I am also frustrated that clinics are getting the vaccine before OB and pedi offices.

The local health deparmtents in each county has it. I called the Mongomerry county health department and they made an appointment for me and DD to come and get it. We're going tomorrow morning, since we have an appointment, I hope they don't have a long line.

I can see why clinics get it before private offices. Poor folks/ poor children are at a higher risk of dying of H1N1 due to lack of/access to health care.

Most people who can go to a private office can be treated if they come down with it.

I went to the WIC center last Friday in SW Houston (quite the scary area of town so glad DH is going w/you, I'm pretty sure they are all in bad parts of town) and they didn't even have any. The issue is you can't even call ahead (busy signal). I am sort of doubting they have any left by this Friday. You may want to call and see if you can get through or maybe you can get through to one of the main offices.  You definitely don't want to have to go there for nothing!
