I'd pay the $600/year because you're saving $120 - assuming you know you'll go for the next year and that the monthly would be cancellable - sometimes you still have to sign the contract.

If I could afford to write the check for $600, I would absolutely do it.  I don't like having to pay bills every month and you save $10/month that way.

I don't belong to a gym. I should.

If I could easily spare the $600, I'd definitely pay it upfront to save $120.

I don't have a gym membership... but do you plan on staying with the gym for the whole year? do you have to sign a contract saying you will be there a year even if you are paying monthly? I would pay the $600 up front for the 12 months so I wouldn't have to pay an extra $120 for the year by paying $60 a month.

we're not under contract, so we pay monthly.  that way, if we decide to stop going, we can do so without the hassle of trying to recoup our money.

sorry, i misread the OP.  like everyone else, given your scenario, i would pay all upfront if i was fairly certain that i would go the gym for a year.

Do you go to the gym regularly now?  I wouldn't do this if I were just starting out as a gym-goer, because who knows if you'll stick with it.  But if you're a regular gym-user and confident you'll want to use this one long term, it's probably safe to make a year commitment.

$299.99 for 2 years at 24hour Fitness is still available through Costco. Since I knew I'd be in the gym multiple times a week and I had the cash at the time, that's what I did. Ultimately it saved me money in the long run.

However if you aren't sure that you will stick with it or if you don't have the cash now, you might want to consider going monthly.

If you like the new gym and will go, that's great. I was just putting the deal out there in case you didn't know.

Their gyms can very a lot by location. I just happen to have a 24hour Fitness about a mile from my office, about 2.5 miles from my house, and another one near where I volunteer. One of those has an olympic pool, multiple group class rooms, great classes, always immaculate. Another one is much smaller, fewer treadmills, issues in the parking lot with the lights, etc. It really can be hit or miss.
