WARNING!! Those with kids/pets!

Ticks are bad this year... I just pulled one out of my daughter's head (EW, I know)!  BUT the pediatrician said she's had hundreds of calls from people that had their kids outside this past week playing in leaves, etc.  Check your kids/pets EVERY time you bring them inside.  The one I found was a deer tick, that are known for Lyme disease... the monitoring time is 6 weeks.

I don't post much (ever) any more, but I think of you all often and wanted to make sure you are all aware.  This lasts until we have a good FREEZE so they die off... HTH someone!

Ew, ticks give me the willies.  K's BFF and his wife picked more than 20 off of their dog after taking a walk along a canal in their town. They think he must have walked through a nest or something.  Ewww.

For Caitlyn, I could see it.  It looked like a little scab on the back of her head... even felt like it.  But then I looked closer because It was a little dot and really when my kids get hurt, its bigger than that (LOL).  Once I got within a foot or so of her head, I could see her little scab had legs... EW!  It was probably less than 1/2 the sizer of a pencil eraser, but not too hard to see.  I read online that for kids, the tend to go to their backs, scalp, neck or underarms.  Almost sounds like its the "softer" skin areas you have to worry more about.  Not sure thats scientific though.  HTH!

Recently my friend had to pick a deer tick off of her 1 year old son.  His was behind his ear.  She is a field scientist so she was used to this kind of thing becuase she's picked ticks off of herself before so she knew what to look for.  But her telling me about that terrified me!  She said they tend to go to the warm places on your body.

I'm really glad you found it on your DD & were able to get it off of her!

Yuk!  Thanks for the reminder- I wouldn't have thought they could survive the cold, so I'll definitely keep an eye out!

Jeanna, ticks are little black dots (kind of look like black lady bugs)  You'll definitely notice if K has one on her skin, but be sure to check her hair if she's been playing outside.

What did I say about kids playing in leaves and not raising them in a bubble?

Maybe I've changed my mind.  LOL

In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation.

I had one on me several months ago that probably came in the house on one of our dogs. Just thinking about it gives me the willies.

I keep telling DH after he comes home from hunting that he needs to take his clothes off outside.  The thought of one of our dogs bringing one inside to DD is frightening to me.
