Has anyone heard of this?

I've heard stories of husbands surprising their wives with their homecomings and I really didn't know how that was possible until now. My husband is returning from Afghanistan soon and as far as I knew he wasn't on the Advance party, which is returning 3 weeks prior to main body. Because of a few reasons I'm starting to think that he might actually be with the advanced party. I would freak out if that were the case, I have no welcome home signs, no cute outfit, and my house probably wouldn't be spotless like I'd want it for his homecoming, but I'd also be really happy.

I sent my FRO an email asking her because she has the roster for the advanced party and will be able to tell me if DH is on there. Until she writes me back I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Anyway, does anyone have any first hand accounts of this happening?

I'm a little confused as to why your husband wouldn't be telling you the right information.  Is there a reason why he would tell you one window but really be coming home at a different time?  And why do you think he might be with the advanced party?

I've been through two deployments, and this wasn't something that was up in the air for us.  I haven't heard of anyone purposefully telling their spouse a different date, other than situations involving marital problems.

I've never heard of this ever really happening, just a spouse urban legend. I think I'd kill SO if he didn't let me know he was coming back though.

We're not having marital problems. If he actually did do this it would be to surprise me but I really doubt he would because he knows I like to plan things out. This isn't my first deployment either and like my post said, I couldn't ever see how this was possible until now. He could easily be with AP and then call me once he was stateside saying something like "I'll see you in a few hours".

It's really unlikely that he's advanced party but a girl can dream right?

I agree! So exciting! The only thing I know is a friend of mine told his mom and sister the wrong date so he could surprise them at the school they work at 2 weeks earlier. When this happened DH and I talked about it and I mentioned he better never do that to me cause I wouldn't like it. He then said that it most likely would be impossible because we talk every day and I know what his room looks like. haha And if he were to say ''honey i can't talk for a few days'' I'd know something was up.

Either way, good luck! I'm excited he's coming home soon!!! yay!!!!

M did this to me once, but on a TDY (so totally different). When he didn't call at his usual time, I got worried and called his phone (it was off because he was on a plane). When I couldn't get through to him for two hours, I freaked and called the hotel. They told me he'd checked out that morning. Just as I was hanging up with them, the doorbell rang. He took a cab home from the airport.

He'll never do it again, (1) because it really scared me and (2) because the cab ride was $50. Also, he was lucky I didn't answer the door with my pepper spray.

Tee hee, I did this to K when we were on AD. I won't ever do it again, he swears I almost gave him an ulcer he was so sick with worry.

Yes, my H's cousin did that twice. Once to surprise his wife for the birth of their son and the second to surprise her for mothers day/sons 1st bday... But she loves surprises, me on the other hand am a planner and would have hated if my H did that! Haha GL..you might have a surprise on your door step soon:)

We would end up at the emergency room if J tried this, because he'd end up with a ka-bar stuck in him.

Oh jeez! Lol! I'm glad that situation turned out well, but it probably would be a different story with most people haha.

Stan that would not be good, surviving a deployment only to come home to the states and be attacked by your girlfriend lol!

She told me she just lived with her mom, so atleast she didn't live alone. The guys started joking that what if he had gotten into bed with her mom on accident haha.

So sweet of him though.  I understand (can imagine) how worried you were, but what did you do when you opened the door and saw him standing there!!  Did you cry, laugh, jump in his arms, punch him then jump in his arms!!! :D

Well, he's not on AP. I thought *maybe* he was because I hadn't heard from him in days which is unusual. It turns out someone in his platoon fell asleep on post and they all got banned from using the phones. This is actually the 4th time in the last 2 months that someone has fallen asleep on post.
