Five second wrap up of yesterday's debate

A few of you gave me food for thought. (Of course some of you just trashed me, thanks.) It was the idea that DH had all of a sudden put the brakes on that bothered me. Anyway, after thinking about how I felt at some of the other services I'd gone to; some were fine and some irked me. I decided to tell DH he didn't have to come and I didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable and didn't want to ruin the holiday.

At first he said, "Well, are you saying this so I'll feel guilty and go anyway?" And I said, "I'm just trying to be thoughtful."

And he said that it meant a lot to him that I was putting his feelings ahead of my own (and the agreement we'd made.)

Since we were kind of on an "up" point, I didn't want to bring up that I had been hurt that he had changed his mind from what he'd originally agreed and I just left it at that.

--------------

Informatively, Christian Scientists don't believe in the birth/death of Christ, as he was eternally a part of God (see the resurrection-- not death.) So there is no official church celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ because Christ always existed as a part of God. But we celebrate Easter and the resurrection. (And Thanksgiving. It's an American-based religion, what can I say?)

Also, I never for a second regret marrying DH because he's not religious. It would be easier, and I'd like it if we shared the same beliefs, but that's the breaks. I love him for who he is.

I wonder if the reaction will change now that people know you're a Christian Scientist.

No Kuus, my opinion hasn't changed.

Because the root of their issue has nothing to do with religion but OP's feelings of resentment that she is doing so much for her DH and she doesn't feel it is reciprocated.

Have you guys discussed how your faith will affect your children? Or are you not going to have them?

There's a pic of them in the bottom of my post. Kids will go to church with me when I go and will also be exposed to other religions and can pick their own when they get older (high school age).

Am I on crack or doesn't Christian Scientist involve not seeking medical treatment?

How do you reconcile that with your husband? And how can you genuinely say you will allow them to be exposed to other religions and make their own decisions when you are essentially making a decision for them?

OP I think you did the right thing here. You should probably talk about your resentment over fairness, but some other time, like after Thanksgiving, to avoid getting it all muddied up again.

The fact that OP is Christian Scientist doesn't change my opinion at all. If someone does not believe in a religion they just don't - it doesn't particularly matter which one it is.

Thanks for the update.  It sounds like things went well in the discussion with your H.

This has been an interesting discussion!
