career change..possibly into banking?

I am a teacher, but am unable to get a position in my area.  Although I just got a Masters in Teaching I am thinking that I would be interested in changing my career into banking. (I am a 'math person').

Any suggestions of where to start?  Everything I look at says they need someone with experience.

TIA

Not sure where you are located but I am a bank auditor and all of the banks in our area are barely hanging on and most have a hiring freeze in place. In our area, now is prob not a great time to switch into banking.

You need to be willing to work your way up.  I started out in the teller line 4.5 years ago with a 4 year degree in accounting.  Within 6 months I was in the accounting dept and now in auditing.  I work at a credit union, still techinically "banking".  Watch certain institution's websites, etc.

I agree that now is not a particularly great time for banking.  Do you have a degree in finance or accounting?  What kind of banking do you want to go into--commercial, investment?  If commercial, do you want to serve corporate or retail (consumer) clients?

While it's not hte greatest time ot get into banking there are a couple of entry level positions that could get you on a career path:

Personal Banker.  This is the person who works inthe brnach opeing accounts for people.  Very sales oriented. Career path is to branch manager, business banking

Commercial analyst. This is the person who collects financials from business customers and puts the numbers into spreadsheets to analyze the financial helth of the business.  Career path is to business/commercial Relationship Mamanger (slaes positin) or underwriter, credit officer (nuber crunching position).

Right now your best bet is with a big bank JPM Chase, Wells Fargo US Bank
