Kid theme adult B-day party

So... I'm joining the "dirty thirty" club next month... and am thinking I want to throw an "I won't grow up" or " I don't wanna grow up" party...

The thought was to have a classic "kid" birthday...  crape paper decorations matching plates to the theme etc...(I thought of playing up the "neverland/ Peter Pan idea ... for the decor)

pin the tail on the donkey... (but adding alcohol to the mix) maybe one other game...

help me focus my vision nesties... need food ideas... maybe some other game/entertainment ideas ? I thought of a jump house... but even in Cali it maybe too chillly... but then again... it may not...

This sounds tacky as hell.

Cute idea.  It sounds like you want to celebrate the frivolity of childhood at an adult party  (ie. drinking etc.).

Perhaps a pinata loaded with adult treats?  (Little airplane size booze bottles, godiva truffles etc.)

Re: games - Twister?

Re: food Mini PIzzas (with adult topping like Gruyere/Ham, Leeks etc.)

Cookies and Milk, anything nostalgic from your childhood...  have fun and please let us know what you do!

I think it's a really cute idea. Pin the Tail on the Donkey and pinatas are my idea of classic, birthday entertainment, unless you want to hire some sort of clown... maybe not. For decorations, I would use a bunch of multi-colored balloons, crate paper, and a Happy Birthday (your name) banner. I think it would be really good to do classic "kid food" but with a gourmet twist. Mini pizzas untraditional toppings, grilled cheese sandwiches with gorgonzola or brie cheese, gourmet sliders, PB&J on a french baguette with a chunky preserve, maybe a chicken satay (like chicken nuggets) with a spicy peanut sauce.

Fun idea!

We do pinatas for cinco de mayo every year and everyone love them, even when filled with smarties and snickers.

Cupcakes would also be a addition for desserts.

Moon bounce is totally fun.

Maybe a pinata?

Cakewalk or musical chairs with fun prizes.

what about a money cake?! (bake a cake and then wrap coins in wax paper and put it in the cake. they were a big hit when i was kid - despite the obvious dangers).  Ice cream cakes were also big.  Either way cake is an essential part of any kids birthday party.

Since you grew up during the 80s, I'd fill a pinata with 80s candy (nerds, jolly ranchers, pez, bonkers, double bubble, bubble tape, etc.), have twister set up, maybe some fun 80s TV playing in the background....

For food, the PPs ideas are great, but I'd have to throw spiked Kool-Aid into the mix...

And you HAVE to have goodie bags.

I have a habit of throwing happy big 3-0 birthday parties, with the 0 exed out.  Usually I just go with whatever three year old themes seem fun. I think the idea of 80s candy is fun too.  Some various things we have had at the three different 3-0 parties I have hosted:

Pinata's

Twister

Noise makers

Silly Putty

Animal spoons (these are a major hit for some reason - they are knives, spoons, and forks shaped like animal handles)

Ice cream, cupcakes

Individual small cake for the birthday boy/girl - cupcakes for everyone else

Streamers

Confetti

Crazy String (beware if this gets mashed into the carpet)

Nerf ball or nerf gun wars (may want to make this an outdoor only sport!)

Add alcohol, and everyone was happy!

I just threw MH a surprise bday party this past Friday and it sorta turned out like this on it's own.

I filled the house w/ balloons. (Walmart has a balloon and helium tank set for $20)

Streamers

Pin the tail on the donkey and I put pics of MH's face over top of the donkey's face.

Pinata filled w/ condoms, lube, and various things found at the Adult Mart

Jell-O shots

For food we had various dips, cheese platter, veggie platter.  I threw meatballs and sauce in the crock pot and everyone made meatball sandwiches.  That was the best thing I could have ever done!

I thought I would find most of the decorations at the party store but instead found so much of what I wanted at Walmart for dirt cheap.  There's bday party packs w/ balloons, streamers, and two banners for just a dollar or two a piece.

Super cute idea, really like the idea of 80's candy and the games from birthday parties when you were a kid.  Do you parents have any video of your birthday parties growing up?  Might be cute to make a video montage of some of that...maybe that is too much.

I just went to a 40th b-day party this weekend for 2 guys turning forty and the theme was "dress like you are 80"...it was a blast and definitely very different.  I say kuddos to you for thinking outside of the box on party ideas...and kuddos to everyone for ignoring the first poster being a bit of a downer :)

What is it with pinatas? We had one for my husband's 25th and our male friends went ape-sh_t over it. Not sure what happened, but they tore it up.

It must be the testosterone making them more primal to the point that they just want to beat things with sticks.
