Help with my food menu!

I've come to the realization that most of the food I make, I use an oven. I only have a stove top available to me, and only two burners at that. FI and I do not really enjoy traditional spaghetti, though I'm not opposed to Italian food. We're also trying to keep it kind of cheap. Last week I made cod cakes, porkchops w/ apples and cider cream sauce, and a white chicken chili.

Any suggestions on what to make for next week that can be prepared on a stove top only??

First, how is it possible you don't like spaghetti? That is just weird. Second, you should explore other pasta options, like pasta primavera, or noodles with pesto and feta, or sautee some noodles in garlic and olive oil with some lemon and red pepper flakes.

Okay, now I'm seriously hungry.

curry with steamed rice

fried rice

lentils with chicken or shrimp

paella

fried green tomatoes

falafel

stovetop mac & cheese (meaning, make a bechamel, stir in a sh!tlaod of cheddar & swiss plus the noodles, then eat it without baking... though this could get pricy depending on the cheese you pick).

I thought Nikki was pretty much against cooking pasta at all, not just spaghetti. Or am I getting her confused with someone else?

Do you have a crock pot? That will open up a lot of options for you.

Here's some cheap stuff I make a lot:

I make my chicken with 40 cloves on the stove.

You could also make soups, braises, breaded cutlets, pasta with pesto, etc

I cook mostly on the stove top. We're veg so I usually make things like soba noodles, rice w/ Mexican spiced veggies and beans, potatoes or rice with Indian spiced veggies, and pasta... I don't really do traditional "spaghetti" either but usually fusilli or penne with red sauce & veg or I make cream/cheesy sauces with veg. Breakfast for dinner is always good too.

- tacos/burritos

- noodles, cheese sauce and broccoli (this is DH's "recipe" - he makes kraft mac n cheese, and adds broccoli to it) - we usually have sauteed chicken with this

- any type of fish, meat, chicken, can be sauteed instead of baked/broiled - I made a haddock yesterday with a creamy crab sauce, all on the stovetop.

- crockpot recipes, if you have one -- a long time ago, I copied a recipe from HS for honey mustard curry chicken.   I make once a month or so, it's AWESOME!   there's a ton of crockpot recipes online, and one of the pp had a few that looked good

- sandwich "melts" - basically a grilled cheese with whatever lunchmeat you might have handy.   I usually add tomatoes and some type of condiment spread after it's heated through, and have a salad with that.

now i'm hungry too!  good luck!

LMN, do you have a crock pot or $30 to go get one? There's so much more you can make in a CP...
