The scariest night of my life...

We have an AngelCare monitor in Rylie's crib.  For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a regular sound monitor but it also senses their breathing.  If they stop breathing an alarm goes off on the base unit in their room and also on the hand held receiver.

At 3 AM I was awakened by the sound of the alarm going off.  I have never moved so fast in my life.  I honestly think my feet didn't touch the ground between my room and Rylie's room.  When I got in there she was breathing so I don't know what happened.  Nontheless...it scared the living p!ss out of me!

She has become quite the little mover in her crib lately, so Brian thinks she just moved too far from the sensor pad.  I hope that he's right, but she has moved away from the sensor before and the alarm didn't go off.

Of course I always think the worst...like that she stopped breathing and the alarm startled her enough that she started breathing again.

Either way, it scared me to death and I hope to NEVER hear that sound again.  However, I would rather have a false alarm than no alarm if something really did happen.

Number one...thank goodness she's ok.  I agree about a false alarm being better than no alarm.  Number two...I've never heard of Angelcare monitor, but that sounds like a really great thing.  Really alleviates some of the worry, I imagine.  I don't have kids or anything...but for future reference, where did you get that?

You're going to need to strap that kid down and make sure she stops rolling around so much! ;)  Seriously though, I'm glad she's okay.

Thanks girls!  I am still freaked out about it!

Redhead - we got ours at Babies R Us.  Surprisingly it doesn't cost much more than the regular sound monitors.  For the extra $50 or so, it is worth the piece of mind you get from it.

I can totally relate to how you felt.  Delaney quit breathing when she was about 3 months old.  Some of the ladies on here might remember our ordeal.

She was laying on the floor while I was playing with her.  I noticed her eyes rolling back in her head and I realized she wasn't breathing.  I grabbed her, shook her, blew in her face, etc.  Nothing worked for about 45 seconds.  She turned blue around her nose, lips and chin.  Finally she started breathing.  She ended up in the hospital for three days while they did a bunch of tests to figure out what was wrong.

They finally determined she had severe acid reflux which basically caused her esophagus to close because of the burning.  She is still on Zantac and she was a breathing monitor for three months.  It was the type that strapped to her.  But it was a problem because sometimes the strap would loosen and the alarm would go off - thus me flying into her room like you - no feet touching the ground.

Thankfully she never had another episode as severe as that first one.  A couple of minor ones (they consider it minor if she stopped breathing for 15 seconds or less).  She's now off the monitor, but still on Zantac until she is one.

I hope that everything is okay with your DD.

No, Daddy! I promise, I wasn't trying to sneak out of the house!

Omg hun! I am glad she is ok! I don't blame you for the run and you can chop it up to a good work out to help you with your weight loss goal! :)

But you are right a false alarm is better than no alarm!

LeeAnn,

I know exactly how you feel.  Our alarm went off a couple of times.  It was because Aidan had rolled to the end of the crib where the monitor couldn't sense him.

If Riley is moving around alot, have you tried to increase the sensitivity on the monitor?  That's what we did.  We stopped using the motion sensor part of it when he was about 9 months old.  Because he was just moving off the sensor way too many times during the night. HTH
