Flameworthy but

She is totally exploiting the fact that her son is going into the army.  She did this in her first speech too.  Her son hasn't been deployed yet!

I respect all of the people who choose to enlist and i'm not about to get into an argument but come on..

Did Biden talk about his son? Tit for tat on that one! I guess they cancel each other out!

If people aren't allowed to "blame" her for her daughter's choices, she shouldn't get "credit" for her son's positive choice to fight for the country.

I think you're wrong about her exploiting her son.  My brother has been deployed to Iraq and I always told people that he was going or was there.  It's probably out of pride.

To be honest I don't know but I agree..if he did its also a low pandering move.  But is his son currently serving?  If so, he has one up on her lol.

we just turned it on, so I will say that I don't know what she said, but perhaps she was mentioning it so those of us w/family/friends/loved ones in the military can relate to her?

Totally not flaming, but I wouldn't call it exploitation. This is only the 2nd time we've heard her speak, so I think she is just trying to give a little background on her family.

I saw her speak the first time and she began her speech this time the same way she did last time. Listing that she has a Down's syndrome child, that shen has a son who is GOING to be in the army, and of course that she is a woman.

hit post too soon...even though her son is still there, the pride, fear, emotion of it all is still very much present even before the soldier is deployed.

Free will, kids will make choices in life, sometimes wrong even with the best parents around.

What's wrong with pointing out her son is in the military?

I totally agree that there is pride there...but I feel it is total pandering as well and perhaps one of the reasons she was chosen as his running mate.  It makes her sympathetic to MANY constituents.

For me it was pride so I completely agree-  My brother has served in Iraq and is a Marine and now my other brother is at the citadel training for the next four years to become a Officer in the USMC.  She certainly can be proud of her children all she wants - that she has earned as their mother!!!!!!

not flaming, but having those life experience and making you empathize with a broad range of people and their situations be a good thing?? They are less far removed from what is the many Americans are going through?

haha, i dont' even like politics, I have no idea who I'm voting for anyway...

I am sorry, but if she is going to parade her entire family before the limelight in an effort for political gain...then they are fair game.

I really just hate the pandering on both sides and the hypocrisy on both sides.  It makes me ill.

But, I can not imagine a country without having the right to choose and my friends having the right to marry and have the same benefits and rights as other married couples.

I don't remember Obama getting up and being all "don't forget i'm Black everyone! Look at my cute Black kids!"

Maybe I missed that part with him exploiting his race as the reps. seem to be exploiting her gender, child, etc.

That's what I'm talking about.  Wouldn't she sound more intelligent if she spoke about something else instead of talking about that?  What did that comment really bring to her speech and how did it take away from Obama?

Her son is in the army, he ships out next week.  She is providing background about her family, and reaching out to military families and families with special needs children because she can relate to them.  And I believe Hillary sometimes spoke about being a woman.  I don't see how talking about being a woman is wrong - she isn't saying that being a woman is her qualification.
