WWYD? Updated

We live in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood.  That is until our next door neighbors moved in.  They have 2 yippy dogs that bark all the time.  Also, in the past 2 weeks, they have had 2 parties that went until well after 2am.  One of them was on Halloween so we let it go.  Last night, DH went over and asked them at 1 if they could move the party inside since they were so loud and their back patio sits right next to our bedroom.  I mean, it sounds like they are in our bedroom with us, even over our TV and fan. 

They said they would, then got attitude as DH was walking away.  We thought rather than being passive aggressive and calling the police right away, we would be good neighbors and talk to them face to face.  Well, they turned the music down maybe by one notch and then nothing changed.  Finally, at 3am, I'd had enough and I called the non emergency police line.  Well, by 3:30 they finally got quiet and the police hadn't showed up by then.  I don't think they know we even called them.  

So, WWYD?  DH wants to go over today and tell them that this will not be tolerated anymore.  That he won't even ask them to keep it down anymore and will just call the police.  They are disturbing the whole neighborhood.  I think it's the proper thing to do, by going over there and talking to them....but I also think it could start some sort of issues with our neighbors that I'd like to avoid.  Would you call the police on them from now on without talking to them?  Would you go talk to them?  Or would you do nothing at all?  (Let me just say that DH and I are both exhausted today after getting to sleep at 4am and we are fighting over this.)

I feel for you. I saw on FB and that sucks. 

 

 

I think - you've done the polite thing, the face to face thing. From now on - notify the HOA and the police every time they violate the noise ordinance. Don't wait till 3:00 - find out what time the noise is legally supposed to end and call right away.

 

I hope these people are just young and still have growing up to do.

That sucks! But I agree with Sara, you gave them a chance and they did nothing, so now they get to deal with the cops coming over and telling them to keep it down. Does this happen only on the weekends, or is it a problem during the week as well?

 

Ps- How are you? I haven't talked to you in FOREVER. We had to rush Lady to the vet on Friday, and they think she may have had a seizure. She couldn't move her back legs and is still a little ginger on her left side limbs, but thankfully, she seems to be getting back to normal.

Sorry to read this.... my husband is a fan of the non-emergency hotline and unfortunately calls it once a week.... and now that he has the HOA information will be frequenting them as well!

I would go the route Sara suggested... the last thing you want is any neighborhood conflict. Sad

Thanks for the advice ladies! 

DH is actually MUCH bigger of a person than I am.  I was fuming mad and he was earlier this morning, but he calmed down.  He said they pulled up in the driveway with a fridge in the back of a truck and being a nice neighbor, he offered to help them bring it inside (yes, after them keeping us up with noise until 3:30am).  He said that was his in to speak to them while also helping them out.  He said once he started talking to them, he realized the issue.  They barely speak english so he thinks they didn't understand what he was saying to them yesterday.  He said he thinks he got through to them nicely today and they understood what he was talking about, so we'll see what happens in the future.  Fingers crossed they got the message.
