Moms of Breech babies.

My DD was breech for about 3 months and she turned head down at 37 weeks. She had an x-ray at 3months old at it  showed she may have hip dysplasia, we have a appointment with a pedi surgeon December 2.  If you little one has hip dysplasia how did they treat it?

DS was frank breech so we did have the u/s, but he did not have hip dysplasia.  I had started reading about it just in case, it looks like it depends on the severity and sometimes they could use a harness or a cast.  WebMD had some good info.

Also had to tell you I love that pic of your DD.  She's beautiful and the outfit is adorable.

This was 2 years ago, so I'm assuming things are the same. DD turned breech at 37 weeks and came out with a dislocated hip.

She started wearing a harness when she was 1 day old. She wore it constantly for 6 weeks. Then for 6 more weeks, she just had to wear it at night. She sees a Pedi Orthopedic Dr and she had to have x-rays and ultrasounds until she was 1. Now, we have to take her in every 3 years (until she's 12) to have it monitored.

It really is heart breaking to see your child in it.  The only clothes DD could wear over the harness were sleep sacks with the elastic bottoms.

Since DD was in a harness for basically, the first 3 months of her life, she couldn't move. Due to this, she didn't roll over until she was 7.5 months and we started her in an IE (early intervention) program to make sure she wasn't delayed in walking.

I was told this is genetic and any other childen I have could have this problem as well (more likely to happen if we have another girl). We had DS checked out when he was born and he does not have any hip problems.

Good luck to you and your DD.  If the harness is something your DD has to wear, be prepared that she probably will be delayed in her milestones. Just remember that the earlier it is caught, the better and easier things will be later on.

My niece had it as well.  She was in a brace at night for the first six months.

Both of my girls were breech and both had hip dysplasia and their treatment was exactly the same.  The harness was put on when they were 1 day old and they wore it all of the time for 8 weeks.  We could only take out one leg at a time for baths so it was sponge baths only for those 8 weeks.  After those 8 weeks, we went to night wearing only which was nice because then baths were a go! :)  It's kind of a pain but more than worth it to know their hips will be okay.  The one benefit to having a little girl is that at least they can wear dresses because that's about all they can wear over the harness other than sleep gowns/sacks.

Your LO might have a little trouble adjusting to it since she's been 4+ months without being constricted where as my girls didn't really know the difference since it was put on so early after they were born.

We went to the orthopedic at 4, 8 and 12 weeks for ultrasounds.  Then had an xray at 6 months, 1 year and 2 years.

Good Luck!
