So my dad might have cancer

A few days ago, he woke up in the middle of the night with sharp pains in his stomach. My mom took him to the ER where they did an MRI and saw that his colon was swollen (I'm not supposed to giggle during the telling but seriously, swollen colon?) Well anyway, and his lymph nodes are pressing against his aorta.

I'm not exactly clear and my mom is a hot mess of legally prescribed hopped up so the closest I got to an explanation is that they are removing the part of the color that has some growths on it. Once it's out, they will but them under a microscope and find out what they are.

So anyway, but he's young, only 45. And my parents have both Tricare to cover the medical bills since he's retired from the military and short term disability through his job. It should go fairly well.

Anyway, just needed to share.

Is she on pills to deal with the news or other reasons? AKA- will she be able to give you the details later or will you need to talk to your dad?

I hope he is ok.

She has fibro. I'm mostly teasing about how hopped up she is. I think she's just tired, stressed out and worried. She absolutely adores my father and he's rarely ill. It's just a lot for her.

I'm okay. My dad's okay but my mother is hyperventaliating.

Oddly so, all I can really think about it how cranky I am that my parents haven't saved more.

This. Good for him for going to the doctor, and I hope everything works out.

I don't know when the results will be in. I don't think they've scheduled the surgery yet. It will a month before he can return to work post-surgery.

I will definately update everyone when I get more info

and yes, Mags, my dad is 45, my mom is 48. They got married when I was 12. He's technically my stepfather. But he's my dad.

Hi, I'm a lurker (mostly over on MM) but just wanted to say how sorry I am about your father's possible illness.

 My father (also pretty young - only 56) has just been diagnosed with cancer for the 3rd time in about two years. He's been in the hospital for a month straight because his colon/bowels are completely blocked.  He has colorectal cancer.  

Having an ill parent is a really awful thing to experience, and my thoughts are with you.
