Safe areas?

My husband is interviewing for a job and one of the possible places would be the LA area.  Neither of us have ever been so have no idea about the areas.  My Aunt lived there for 8 years but don't really want to get family involved until he goes through the interviewing process.

The job would be close to Universal City.  I have a little girl and we're wanting to start trying again soon.  Where should be look to rent and check out places to help us make the decision.

Thanks!

We live in Santa Clarita, which is about 25 minutes away from there.  If he's willing to commute a bit (which everyone who lives here does), I highly recommend it.  Great schools, very family oriented.  Check it out.

There are some really nice areas really close to Universal City, however, they are really expensive.  I am not sure what range you are looking at, but Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Toluca Lake are all really nice areas.  They are pretty crowded, so depending on what you are looking for (house/apartment) you could be spending a bit.  There are others areas that are kind of iffy, North Hollywood, Van Nuys-they have some nice spots and some really bad spots.

Like Saige said, if he is willing to commute, Santa Clarita Valley is a fantastic area as well as Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena are all pretty nice.

We live about a mile from Universal City and love it.  Studio City/Sherman Oaks is a really nice area - though it can be expensive to buy, the rents are dropping right now.

Burbank/Glendale is good, if you're looking for that small-town or neighborhoody feel.

One of the best resources to look into rentals in SoCal is www.westsiderentals.com

 Good luck!

If your husband works in Universal City, the BEST place to look is Studio City and Sherman Oaks! These twp cities are considered the "valley" or suburbia of Los Angeles and are very close to Universal City. These cities are also very family and baby friendly. I would definately recommend these areas for a young family! It is ULTRA safe and has a wide range of housing affordability. These are not inexpensive areas to live. Sherman Oaks is considered a bit upscale as now more celebs and their tots are moving into this neighboorhood.  My husband and I are looking into Sherman Oaks as well! It really is the best options especialluy because it will be so close to your husband's job! In LA, you NEVER want to commute more than you have to! Good Luck!

THIS..

My dh and I live in Studio City and love it. Not sure if yall are looking to rent or buy or what your ranges are but you can find affordable housing to rent in both areas.

Sherman Oaks is a bit more crowded than Studio City and Studio City is a little smaller (and closer to Universal). My dh worked in Universal until we transferred.

We can't bring ourselves to leave the area though!
