nasty, stinky problem...

DS puts his mouth on everything.  He puts everything in his mouth.  It's driving me nuts.  I have found teeth marks on furniture and I have to constantly wash his hands and face to get rid of the stinky spit smell.  Is there any way to get him to quit?  If this is a phase, when will it stop!  I try giving him his raspberry when I notice his hands in his mouth as an option, but he gets board with it and will go find a shoe to knaw on.  We did just get rid of his paci a couple of weeks ago so that might be why I am noticing it more, but he's not getting that back.  Any suggestions?

I wish I knew. DD puts everything in her mouth. EVERYTHING. I think it's something we all have to deal with.
