Job Hunt Vent

Sure Raytheon, go on and email me about the wonderful positions you have available that I'm perfectly qualified for... in AZ... when we're moving to CO...

It's fantastic that even though you have a facility where we're moving, it has ZERO available mechanical engineering positions listed.  Not to mention we actually looked into going to that exact location in AZ (where we have friends), but couldn't get the assignment.

No biggie, just twist the knife a little.

Sorry - this whole relocation thing is getting a little overwhelming and I just really needed to vent.

Can you possibly get a temp job, while you are looking?  Have you looked on the military board, on the Nest, to see if those girls have an suggestions?

I can not imagine being in your shoes. GL and {{{{HUGS}}}}

Well luckily I still have time to look - we're not physically moving until mid-July (so I have my current job until then) and I'm hoping to start start work in the beginning of August.

It's only insanely frustrating because I don't want to get too far into looking at houses out there if I don't have any income (not to mention it really complicates that whole pre-approval process).  Plus even though the cost of living in CO is much cheaper than here, we have a lot of bills (CC, car payments etc) that will follow us out there.

Just very overwhelming *sigh*.

Oh Jen, I'm sorry you're going through this!  We really should get together for mani pedis before you leave - so what if it's a year after we originally planned!

how long is an assignment at any given location typically? (how many years?)

I think I would be inclined to rent anyway if I didn't need more space for kids and such just so that I could get a feel for the place and learn about the different neighborhoods.

AND....if the assignment isn't for at least 5 years, I would be hesitant to buy anyway just given how much the breakeaven point can be on buying/selling a house.

Just trying to give another perspective.  I know it's tough pyschologicaly when you want to buy though.

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time :o(  I hope things get easier. It's hard enough to look for a job locally, never mind in a different part of the country.  Good luck!

It looks like we'll be there *at least* 5 years depending on whether or not DH decides (or gets accepted rather) into a nursing program through the Air Force.  If he doesn't get accepted then we could be there as many as 8 years, more if we decide to retire there.

Also with the interest rates and housing market the way it is, if we can get the finances in order then it would be a great time to buy.  Plus DH qualifies for a VA loan which would help us out a lot since we wouldn't need a downpayment, just pay the finding fee (which is around 2% of the cost of the house).

Don't think I don't appreciate another perspective - I definitely do!  There's so much to think about and consider and we don't want to rush into anything.  It's also just that much more enticing since house prices out there are around 1/3 of what they are here.

So sorry this is so stressful.  Can you work for a group in AZ from the CO location?  If you want, I have a book on job hunting that is amazingly helpful. Let me know if you want to borrow it.
