moving to AZ

Hello all!
My husband may be accepting a job in the Phoenix area and we're about to begin the home search. Any tips or opinions on areas to live? We have a friend in Queen Creek, one in Mesa, and one in Phoenix; but all of them are single (or permanently engaged) guys so I'm not taking their advice too seriously. His job would actually be in Mesa. I've been an East Coast girl all of my life, so I don't know anything about the area. Just looking for a little info this early in our search. Thanks!

I've been an East Coast girl all my life and moving here was a bit of an adjustment.  I love it but the hardest part for me was getting used to how spread out everything is....and to be honest I'm still not used to it.  (Its been almost a year)  I moved from Boston where we walk everywhere and thats not an option for the majority of the Valley.

Unfortunately I don't really know anything about Mesa or that part of the Valley.  I live in North Scottsdale now and I'm moving to downtown Phoenix in June.  I guess Chandler would be the most obvious choice but it really depends on what you look for in a neighborhood and if you're willing to commute.

If you have any general questions about life in AZ I'll be glad to help you out!

HEY! My MIL lives in Mesa, she's not Morman! Mesa is nice..You can get a lot of home for cheap in Queen Creek, it is a bit far tho. No freeways directly out there yet. And ya, Phoenix is huuge, so it's hard to say without knowing exactly where. I have lived in just about every suburb surrounding & in Phoenix

I live on the border of Gilbert and Mesa. My husband teaches in Mesa. I love Gilbert because it is new and quiet. We bought a brand new house by the builder K.Hovnanian. They are an East Coast builder. Our neighborhood is quiet but the majority of our neighbors are young and starting their families and it makes it pretty nice to be able to be on the same level. Gilbert is one of the top 100 Safest cities to live in, in the United States. I would not recommend Queen Creek because there is one way in and one way out basically and from having friends that live out there it gets tricky commuting. Hope that helps..

That's an ignorant thing to say about Mesa. Yes, the city was founded by Mormons but to say that a city of of about half a million people is a "Bunch of Mormons," just makes you look like an idiot quite frankly. And it's rude.

There's actually quite a few ways in and out of Queen Creek.  You just need to know where you're going.  DH and I live out there and we both commute for work.  He goes to Tempe and it takes 45 minutes or less, depending on traffic.  I work in Mesa, and it takes me 20-30 minutes, depending on which route I take and traffic.

I live in Gilbert and I love it here.  Gilbert is between Mesa and Queen Creek.  For the most part everything is very spread out so you can't walk from place to place, however we have a really good freeway system here that connects the whole valley.  So no matter where you live everything is only a freeway jump away.  The freeways can get pretty busy in the mornings.  Gilbert is one of the fastest growing cities in the valley.

I'm from the east coast too!

Pixie22 has good advice.Chandler is a nice town and Gilbert is great.if it weren't for our job locations (scottsdale), I'd definitely would have picked Gilbert.

We live in North Phoenix and love it here! I am incredibly homesick right now..but really just for silly things, like Dunkin donuts, Goya products in every supermarket, and taylor ham and egg on a hard roll.

Other than that...I love it here :)
