What do you do with money the kids get

It seems like every holiday Matt's grandparents send money. $125 for Christmas, $10 for Easter.. ect.. We started a savings account for Maddie but I am curious to know what you girls do with money given to kids.

We do the savings account thing, too.  In fact, Ryan's account is just an old account that I had from back in my single-girl days that had just 25 bucks in it.  I figured, "Eh, that's a good start for the munchkin," so I just started adding to that account.  He now has over $400 in that account!  He's much better at saving than his mommy was.  LOL

I figure once he gets a little older I'll let him decide what he wants to do with the money.  As long as he doesn't try to get it in all ones and head over to Babe's, we're good.

We have a savings account right now but will be setting up a 529 college savings plan soon.   Some portion of monetary gifts would go into that.

Nothing, yet. We got some cash for her for Christmas ($40), but we used it to buy...something for her....can't seem to remember what....?

I am anticipating getting money for her birthday, most likely. I plan to put it into a savings account. When she's older, we'll probably give her some of it to spend and put the rest away.

LMAO!!!

Yesterday Ryan was carrying around this little pink purse that was filled with toys and dancing to a song on tv.  Good thing Matt wasn't home.  LOL!

Am I the only bad mommy on the board who doesn't set it aside in a savings account?  We don't just spend it on ourselves, but we use it to buy her next size up of clothes or new carseat or something.

Karen- you're not the only one!  We haven't received much money for Mady, but the little we have gotten we used to by her clothes.  We haven't had a chance to start her a savings account.

Mommy keeps sticking stuff on my head!

I plan on opening a savings for her and when I have enough in savings I will put it away in a high yeald something or another until I have enough to invest a portion. I would like her to have some stock options as well as a savings.

Anything over 100 bucks would go into her savings account, but otherwise it all gets put into her piggy fun fund.... we use that to pay for her classes and the occasional toy splurge. Piggy used to be loaded, but not so much after I enrolled her in a gymnastics class last month. :)
