work related vent

Here's the back story:

I'm a teacher and the last names of teachers in my department are ridiculously similar sounding. Four of us (out of 13) start with a Wi- or Whi- combination. The teacher whose name is closest to mine is also similar to me in age and looks. We're constantly getting each others mail and parents are always emailing me about her students and vice versa.

The vent:

The week before Spring Break she announced to our department that she's pg. This morning she fainted during first period (like, slunk to the ground, hit her head, students freaked out fainted) and for the rest of the day, I had people coming up to me asking me if I was ok and congratulating me on being pg. If I were pg, I'd appreciate it, but the fact that I really, really want to be pg sort of makes it all really sad to me somehow. I don't know...I suppose it's not worth worrying about, but every time someone says something to me, I have to explain how it's not me, I'm not pg, she is, and it's just frustrating.

And, I've felt like crying all.damn.day and it's no where near any time when I should feel like crying (or at least I don't think it's supposed to be).

Thanks for letting me vent...

You poor thing!  You would think that for something like that, those around you would definitely want to make sure they have the right person.  I 'm so sorry you're feeling that way- you definitely deserve a good cry.

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. While it is mildly annoying regularly, they have no idea they are hitting a sensitive subject for you. Hopefully it will die down soon..and you'll get pg soon too!

 

I don't know what you can do. People are just so lazy to remember names and it drives me nuts. It is always a pet peeve of mine. Like when people call me Katie instead of Kate.

Thanks ladies!  I think the reason I wanted to cry yesterday was because of AF (who I was NOT expecting, at all!) but it doesn't change the fact that it's a touchy subject.  And I know that they don't know that it's touchy, and that's why I feel bad complaining about it.  It's nice to think that one day when I am pg, people will be concerned about me, too.

I am sorry you had to deal with that. I know it must have been frustrating. It is a shame that people haven't taken the time to know the difference between you two. I hope tomorrow brings brigher days.

I can relate to the name thing.  Happened to me the first two years at my school, and there are only about 60ish teachers.  Talk about lazy.  And my name was NO WAY near the other teacher.  We teach the same subject, and were in the same hall.
