I was making me own laundry detergent for a while using a "shake" of baking soda (I hadn't found the washing soda yet), and a squirt of dish soap. That's pretty much no extra work at all. Then I was doing the same with a shake of washing soda, a smaller shake of borax, and a squirt of dish soap. But then my mom came to visit and told me that there is bad stuff in dish soap (not bad stuff for your clothes, she thinks it causes cancer), and talked me into doing a recipe much like this, only instead of heating it we put it in the blender. I think cooking it on the stove would be easier. On the other hand, just throwing all ingrediants in each time is so nice and convenient. I'm curious if shreaded soap would disolve well enough in cold wash water that I could just keep a bin of soap shavings in the laundry room and use a bit of each thing... Anyone tried that?
