Frenchie with skin issues

Hi ladies! I've posted on this board in the past, back when we rescued our Frenchie from FBRN, but it's been awhile since I've been active on the nest. I'm looking for opinions on a skin issue Henri has been having.

The fur near his tails peels/flakes w/skin attached to it. This has been happening on and off for about 6 months. Initially, the vet treated him for a staph infection with a course of 2 week antibiotics (can't recall the name). They didn't work, and she tested his thyroid, turns out he was immune to that particular antibiotic. She switched him to Clavamox, and a one month prescription improved the problem but didn't completely cure it. She suggested a food switch. He currently eats Wellness Core mixed with Wellness 99% Grain Free Lamb wet food. I can't remember exactly which prescription food she wanted to put him on but at the time I knew it was a crap filled food. If this is a food allergy, I'd prefer to make his food myself vs giving him crap.

NOW, he's just finished his second round of Clavamox, combined with Muricin topical ointment, and I'm noticing new problem spots, including one on his face, and usually these spots are only on his rear end. I'm at the end of my rope here, and have probably spent $600 on this particular issue with no end in sight. I bathe him once a week with Hexadene shampoo, also prescribed from the vet.

Some other things to consider: Henri goes to daycare 2 days a week, and I swear this condition directly correlates to when he started daycare, but the vet insists that it's not something he caught. Also, just food for thought, he doesn't see bothered by the spots, and can't reach them to lick, etc, so they aren't raw, just rough and flaky. Hair does grow back, but new spots start.

My DH and I are planning on getting a second opinion on this whole issue, but I've always valued the opinion of this board and wanted to hear the Pesties thoughts! Food Allergy? Environmental? Something he's catching at daycare? Please help me help my poor pup! Thank you in advance.

My frechie has what sounds like a similar issue.  The vet told me it was where his dead skin cells don't fall off.  He has spots all over.  They dont bother him, unless I try to peel them off.  The look awful, but  like I said they dont bother him.  Just something to think about/ask about.  My frenchie is black and white and his "crusties" as I call them are black and well...crusty.  HTH

Our boxer looses hair when she's stressed - she gets flaky sort of like what you're describing. It grows back in a few weeks to months, but can fall out in days it seems! Completely bald! Maybe it didn't catch it at daycare but maybe it's related?

I don't have any advice, but I have a Frenchie named Henri too. I pronounce it Henry though.
