We shut off our U-Verse

We now only have Netflix and Hulu Plus. It's not as sucky as you'd think it would be...it's not like I really watched tv to begin with.

We did that. I loved it. My bill was super cheap, and I honestly didn't miss it (besides CBS shows but you can watch those on the computer).

If MH didn't get free satellite as a work perk, I would have never made the change back.

I don't think it would be too sucky either. We never watch live TV anymore.

On an unrelated note, I see your birthday is coming up soon, any plans??

Between Netflix, Hulu, and other online ways, we can watch whatever we please. Our U-Verse bill for tv and internet was $250 a month. That's just ridiculous.

Yeah... that's never going to happen for us. We pay $30 for our TV/internet package. It's basic channels that I like to watch for the news and then sometimes they even have good shows on, but generally if we want specific shows we have no problems getting them online. Or finding free Red Box codes.

As the person who pays the cable bill in the house, I am envious of this!

I don't pay quite as much as you but I do mobile wi-fi, but our satellite bill is one I wish I could get rid of sometimes.

I can understand this for you, OPS. Sports is a huge deal to my family, they would never give up satellite because of the games they would miss.

It is not just me during football season, but my H with his soccer channels where they have the only access to World Cup qualifier games and the English Soccer Leagues that he follows.   We have to have it.     But we go to the movies maybe 3 times a year and hardly ever rent DVD's, so I'd say we are probably about even with entertainment spending as people who don't have cable and do those things all the time.

The bill is just farking annoying, but it's a necessary evil for us.

Don't forget you can call satellite and cable companies and negotiate, tell them you are going to go with another company. Usually they will give you some type of deal to keep you as customer. It worked for us with Direct TV.

I need to try to do that with Comcast. I am thinking about cutting cable out entirely but need converter boxes I think and I don't know how much those run.

Yes  We got close to 6 months free. (We didn't have any extras like HBO, or Sunday Ticket)
