Ideas for old magazines.

Since we found out we're expecting, DH and I have been cleaning. We're kind of pack rats. So I have every issue of vogue that has come out in the last 4 years because I get the subscription and I just never threw them away. Some aren't even opened.

I don't want to just recycle them if there's something else I could use them for. I thought maybe an art teacher would use them as collage material in her classes (I was a teacher so I know how much teachers like free things). But it's summer and I don't know how to reach anyone. Should I just recycle them or is there somewhere I could donate them that would use them for something? As I said, I have a lot of them.

TIA.

Libraries or doctor's offices may be interested in them. Or you could box them up until school starts in the fall. You might even try calling the local schools, sometimes staff is there throughout the summer working so it might be worth a try.

My favorite picture because I knew I was in love that night. photo h_zps4345372b.jpg

Ask daycares or pre-schools if they would like them.

Salvation Army and Good Will stores also take magazines. And Salvation Army picks up for you.

this. I have a few friends that are teachers and are often in the classroom during the summer getting things ready for the fall. You could always try that route.

My old HS would use magazines for fashion classes. We always had to bring them in. I'm sure if you have a school near you that offer those types of classes they would love to have them.

Library donation would be the best option for old magazines.

Library donation.  Mine offers them for sale, $0.25.  So they make a little money, and someone who actually wants it, gets it.  And I get a tax deductible receipt for the donation.  Everyone is happy :-)

I have two ideas that I've done before:

1) Tear out pages of pictures that are really pretty and frame them to keep or give as upcycled gifts.

2) Shred the pages and use as hamster/animal bedding for their cage or if you don't have one put it up on Craigslist as free animal bedding.

3) Put them up on craigslist for free, maybe someone else has ideas.

4) Donate them to a school to use for paper mache projects.
